John Schreiber is a fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup for closers and saves in Week 9 (2024). Schreiber is a good free agent waiver wire add for saves leagues.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 13% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Schreiber is enjoying a stellar start to his first season in Kansas City. The big right-hander came over in a trade from Boston this offseason and has been a great addition to the KC bullpen. Through his first 20 appearances, he has 15 strikeouts in 20 innings with an impressive 0.90 ERA and 1.05 WHIP. He's won three games and saved one while functioning mainly as a late-inning, high-leverage reliever.

James McArthur remains the current KC closer, however, he has given up a lot of loud contact lately including four home runs over his last six appearances. McArthur has seen his ERA balloon to 4.58 and WHIP to 1.37 as a result. Rostering Schreiber as an insurance policy is a sharp move in deeper formats as he'd be the guy most likely to get more save opportunities if McArther continues to stumble.
