Welcome to this week’s RotoBaller Rookie Report for Week 12 of the 2025 season — your spot for keeping up with MLB’s rising stars. In this edition, we’re checking in on three young players who’ve just hit the big leagues or are still rocking that rookie tag as the season rolls on.
Last time, we looked at Marcelo Mayer, Kristian Campbell, and Jac Caglianone — all showing flashes of what they could become while getting their feet wet in the majors.
This week, the spotlight’s on Roman Anthony, Kyle Teel, and Ronny Mauricio. We’ll break down how they’ve been playing lately and what their development could mean for their teams moving forward.

Roman Anthony, OF, Boston Red Sox
The top prospect in baseball made his major league debut on June 9, joining Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer in Boston as the last of their "big three" to be promoted. Once Mayer debuted in May, it seemed only a matter of time before Anthony was called up. A nearly 500-foot grand slam off the bat of the 21-year-old sealed the deal for the Red Sox. It was finally time to get Anthony to the Show.
Track Record:
Anthony was a second-round selection out of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in 2022. It wasn't a secret that Anthony was talented, but it was during the 2023 campaign that talent evaluators across the league began taking notice of him.
He hit 12 home runs in High-A alongside a .294/.412/.569 slash line. After starting the season in Low-A, he ended it in Double-A, where he posted a 1.020 OPS in 10 games.
Anthony began 2024 there, once again displaying his ability to make consistent hard contact, with 38 extra-base hits, and a selective approach at the plate, which resulted in 48 walks. After 94 career Double-A games, Anthony reached Triple-A, where he didn't miss a beat. He batted .309 with a .940 OPS across 93 games. Considering his young age, his power stroke and plate discipline are highly impressive.
Outlook:
Anthony's debut was highly anticipated, and there's no reason to believe his success in the minors won't translate to the MLB level. His first career hit was a two-run double down the left field line on a two-strike, two-out changeup from Tampa Bay Rays' Ryan Pepiot.

Based on his scouting report, analysts believe he has the potential to hit .300, deliver 30 home runs, and consistently rank among the league leaders in walks. However, injuries to right fielder Wilyer Abreu and third baseman Alex Bregman ultimately forced the Red Sox's hand to promote Anthony and Mayer. Before their placement on the injured list, Boston had nowhere to put them.
Depending on how the pair performs at the MLB level, the team must figure out a way to keep them with the big league club. The Red Sox have found a gem in Anthony, and along with Mayer and Campbell, Boston has a bright future ahead of them.
Kyle Teel, C, Chicago White Sox
Boston's "big three" could've been a foursome had they kept Teel, who was the headliner of the offseason Garrett Crochet trade with the White Sox. Teel was promoted to the bigs three days before Anthony, as one of the top catching prospects in baseball. Will the Red Sox regret their decision to let him go?
Track Record:
Teel was a first-round selection of Boston in 2023 out of Virginia. Both his father, Garret, and brother, Aidan, play baseball. He put his talent on display immediately, slashing .363/.482/.495 during his first year in the pros.
Teel's performance saw him start the season in rookie ball and end it in Double-A. It was quite a jump for the 23-year-old. In 2024, he began the year in Double-A, posting an .852 OPS, 11 homers, and 60 RBI in 84 games.
As Teel remained consistent, it was a no-brainer to promote him to Triple-A, where he struggled a bit across 28 games. However, the jump from Double-A to Triple-A is known as one of the hardest for a prospect to make.
Teel proved these were growing pains when, in his first year in the White Sox's minor league system, he had 18 XBH alongside an .886 OPS in 50 games. With nothing left to prove, Teel's contract was selected on June 6.
Outlook:
Teel will really get the opportunity to shine for the rebuilding White Sox. Even in a small sample size, the early results have been promising. He's collected three hits, five walks, and five strikeouts in 17 plate appearances for Chicago thus far. His first big league hit came off a Seth Lugo 1-1 changeup that left the bat at 95.6 mph.

Teel has also exhibited his above-average speed for a player at his position, scoring two runs. As he gets deeper into his rookie year, we'll revisit Teel later in the season to see how he's faring on the Southside.
Ronny Mauricio, 2B/3B, New York Mets
Mets No. 9 prospect Mauricio initially made his MLB debut in September 2023. He appeared in 23 games for New York that season, hitting .248 with two homers, nine RBI, and 31 strikeouts across 108 PAs. Unfortunately, that was all that Mets would see of him until June 3, 2025, after he tore his ACL in February 2024. Therefore, the 24-year-old's rookie status remains intact.
Track Record:
Mauricio signed with the Mets out of the Dominican Republic as a 16-year-old in July 2017. He quickly rose to prominence in New York's farm system due to his power and contact skills. A switch-hitter, Mauricio belted 79 homers through his minor league career, putting up three consecutive 20+ home run seasons. He paired that with 110 doubles and a .270/.313/.445 slash line in a little over five seasons.
Outlook:
It was a long road back for Mauricio following his injury. He began 2025 in Low-A, and after five games, traveled to Double-A for another five. It wasn't until his nine games in Triple-A that he finally found his rhythm, batting .515 with four XBH, eight RBI, five walks, and four steals.
Mauricio made his long-awaited return to the majors at the beginning of June. His lone homer thus far came at Coors Field, traveling 456 feet and coming off the bat at 110.3 mph.

He nearly had a second home run in Colorado, but he settled for a 407-foot double instead. He's been hitting the ball hard, and although most of his production so far has come against the Rockies, it's still a good sign. It's going to take some time for Mauricio to get going -- he only has 34 games under his belt at the MLB level, after all.
