Daily Fantasy Baseball Streamers - MLB Hitter, Pitcher Lineup Picks for Wednesday 4/14

Cedric Mullins - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Betting Picks, DFS Advice

Top daily fantasy baseball streamers and waiver wire adds for 4/14/21. Juan Carlos Blanco identifies MLB hitters and starting pitchers to stream based on matchups.

Baseball is back, and fantasy managers in daily leagues no doubt already have holes to fill with streamers. Fortunately, RotoBaller has you covered with daily streaming picks.

Each day, RotoBaller will provide you with some of the best streaming options to consider in fantasy baseball daily leagues. Additionally, these recommendations can be useful for fantasy managers setting DFS lineups.

We're set for a 15-game slate all-day slate Wednesday, with six of those games starting by 3:45pm ET or earlier. That naturally means lineup decisions have to be made early in the day, but fortunately, there are quite a few streamable players with 30 teams taking the field. This article will use rostered percentages and position eligibility from Yahoo! leagues.

Hitter Streamers for 4/14 - Shallow Leagues

Ty France (2B, 3B, SEA) 51% rostered

Matchup: @BAL RHP Matt Harvey

France has been an on-base machine since the start of the season, boasting a .408 on-base percentage through Tuesday night’s action. The 26-year-old already has a trio of multi-hit efforts and entered Tuesday’s game with a .407 wOBA, and a .370/.485/.556 slash against right-handed pitching. Orioles right-hander Matt Harvey should make for an excellent target for France on Wednesday, as he’s already allowing a .392 wOBA, 2.00 WHIP and .900 OPS to the first 25 right-handed batters he’s faced. When Harvey exits, France will also be in a good spot against a Baltimore bullpen that went into Tuesday night’s game having allowed a .349 wOBA, 13 extra-base hits (eight doubles, five home runs) and a 5.13 ERA to the first 112 right-handed batters its relievers have faced this season.

Cedric Mullins (OF, BAL) 58% rostered

Matchup: vs. SEA RHP Justin Dunn

Mullins got on base another two times Tuesday night, pushing his season line to a jaw-dropping .442/.510/.651 across 45 plate appearances. While a larger sample size will naturally serve to eventually temper those numbers some, Mullins is still in a very good spot on Wednesday versus a young right-hander who can struggle with control in Dunn. Mullins entered Tuesday’s game with a 1.175 OPS, .501 wOBA, 25.0 percent line-drive rate and 50.0 percent hard-contact rate against right-handers over 29 plate appearances. Meanwhile, Dunn has surrendered an .823 OPS and .367 wOBA to the 132 left-handed bats he’s faced thus far in his career, with 10 of the 17 hits he’s yielded during that span going for extra bases - three doubles, one triple and six home runs. That wOBA figure bumps up to .444 when Dunn faces left-handed bats on the road, where he also yields an astronomical 32.0 percent line-drive rate to that handedness of hitter. Moreover, Mullins’ 11.1 percent walk rate against righties at home thus far makes him a great match for fantasy purposes for the control-challenged Dunn, who’s generated an 11.2 BB/9 when facing left-handed hitters in his career.

Michael A. Taylor (OF, KC) 37% rostered

Matchup: vs. LAA RHP Griffin Canning

Taylor went hitless in three at-bats Tuesday but still boasts a .303/.343/.515 line across his first 35 plate appearances of the season. The outfielder appears rejuvenated in KC after his career stalled in Washington. On Wednesday, he makes for an interesting streaming option versus Channing, who allowed a couple of home runs in his first start of the season against the Blue Jays. Canning has been impressive versus righty bats in a very small sample this season, but he’s given up a .327 wOBA, 4.57 xFIP and 40.3 percent hard-contact rate to right-handed hitters in his first two-plus seasons. Taylor entered Tuesday’s action with a .372 wOBA and .843 OPS versus right-handed pitching this season; moreover, he’s been an excellent hitter against the four-seam fastball (.659 wOBA) thus far this season. Canning threw his four-seam fastball more than any other pitch in 2020 and gave up a .389 wOBA when throwing it. He yielded a .688 wOBA on the pitch in his first start of the 2021 season.

Raimel Tapia (OF, COL) 28% rostered

Matchup: @LAD RHP Dustin May

Tapia entered Tuesday’s action with a solid .286 average and .324 on-base percentage, including a .444 average in a small road sample of nine plate appearances versus right-handed pitching thus far in 2021. Zooming out to a career-long view, he’s posted a .284/.325/.412 slash against righties, while May checks in with a .338 wOBA, 10.3 percent walk rate and elevated 28.9 percent line-drive rate given up to left-handed hitters in his career. When May exits, Tapia’s solid matchup continues against a Dodgers bullpen that entered Tuesday having allowed a double, three homers and a .349 wOBA to left-handed hitters.

Hitter Streamers for 4/14 - Deep Leagues

Ryan Zimmerman (1B, WAS) 3% rostered

Matchup: @ STL RHP Adam Wainwright

Wainwright bounced back nicely in his second start of the season versus the Brewers after getting hit hard against the Reds in his first turn. On Wednesday, he faces a red-hot veteran bat in Zimmerman that boasts a successful track record against him. One in less than every four hits Wainwright has allowed to right-handed hitters during his career have notably gone for extra bases, while one out of every 2.6 hits Zimmerman has laced against righties over his long MLB tenure have been of the extra-base variety. The veteran has also started the season red-hot against Wainwright’s most often-thrown pitch, the curve, posting an early .444 wOBA versus the breaking pitch.

Corey Dickerson (OF, MIA) 4% rostered

Matchup: @ATL RHP Charlie Morton

Morton has taken his fair share of lumps against left-handed hitters over his long career, allowing 237 extra-base hits and a .343 wOBA to lefty bats. Dickerson has opened the season with a .333 average, .358 wOBA, 33.3 percent line-drive rate and 44.4 percent hard-contact rate versus righties on the road. He also owns a .359 wOBA and .234 ISO overall against that handedness of pitcher over the course of his career. The Atlanta bullpen doesn’t present a bad matchup for Dickerson either whenever they factor into the equation, as they went into Tuesday allowing a .286/.404/.429 slash and .357 wOBA to the first 52 lefty bats faced this season.

Jurickson Profar (2B, OF, SDP) 19% rostered

Matchup: @PIT LHP Tyler Anderson

The switch-hitting Profar has been a more productive hitter overall from the right side during his career, and Wednesday, he gets a crack at a suspect southpaw in Tyler Anderson. The veteran left-hander has opened the season allowing a 1.141 OPS, .472 wOBA and 4.1 HR/9 to the first 30 right-handed batters he’s faced this season. The small-sample numbers aren’t a complete misrepresentation. Anderson has given up 57 homers, a .793 OPS and a .337 wOBA to righty bats in his career. Profar pushed his season average and OBP to .278 and .378, respectively, by getting on base thrice in Tuesday’s loss to the Pirates. The veteran has also typically been an effective hitter against the four-seam fastball (.343 career wOBA). Anderson’s most often-thrown pitch is his four-seamer. The pitch has resulted in a .424 wOBA so far this season and a .362 figure for his career.

Andrelton Simmons (SS, MIN) 17% rostered

Matchup: @BOS RHP Nathan Eovaldi (Game 1)/ LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (Game 2)

Simmons has been on a season-long heater, getting his Twins career off to an excellent start by slashing .355/.474/.452 across his first 38 plate appearances while generating a .438 wOBA and career-best 42.9 percent hard-hit rate. The veteran shortstop’s early work against right-handed pitching consisted of a .333/.455/.500 slash and .420 wOBA going into Tuesday’s game. He’d also touched up lefties for a .444 average and .472 wOBA. Simmons has also been a very productive hitter against both handedness of pitcher in his career-long sample, and if he starts both games of Wednesday’s twin bill, he could certainly make for a productive streamer.

Pitcher Streamers for 4/14 - Shallow Leagues

Jon Gray (SP, COL) 24% rostered

Matchup: @LAD RHP Dustin May

There aren’t many low-rostered pitching candidates that could be considered viable on Wednesday, but Gray, given his performance over his first two starts of the season, qualifies as one despite the difficult matchup against the Dodgers. The right-hander boasts a 1-0 record, 1.54 ERA and 0.94 WHIP across his first two starts, along with a 26.1 percent strikeout rate and 11.5 percent swinging-strike rate. One of those outings came against this same Dodgers squad during his first start of the season, when he held them to just one run on four hits over five innings at Coors Field. Los Angeles has actually scored five or fewer runs in four of the last six games, and it helps Gray that his biggest tormentor among current L.A. bats, Cody Bellinger (.611 average over 22 career plate appearances), is on the injured list. Finally, consider that the defending champs also went into Tuesday’s action with just a .173 average and .248 wOBA in 58 plate appearances against right-handers at home.

Pitcher Streamers for 4/14 - Deep Leagues

Kohei Arihara (SP, TEX)- 2% rostered

Matchup: @TB Opposing pitcher TBD

Arihara has been serviceable in his first two MLB starts after some successful years in Japan, allowing three earned runs or less in each of those turns versus the Royals and Padres. Arihara admittedly hasn’t shown much strikeout upside yet, but he did ring up just under a K per inning during his final NPB season in 2019. The right-hander faces an inconsistent Rays offense that has a -18 run differential through 11 games and is averaging under 4.0 runs per game on the road. Tampa also went into Tuesday’s game with a 25.6 percent strikeout rate against righties, along with a .224 average, .295 OBP and .292 wOBA in 270 plate appearances versus that handedness.
