Week 4 FLEX Outlooks for Fantasy Football
Tony Pollard, Tennessee Titans
Tennessee Titans Running Back Tony Pollard (foot) is coming off his best all-around performance of the season, rushing 17 times for 74 yards and catching all four of his targets for 22 yards against the Giants. Pollard has now rushed 38 times for 173 yards through three games, averaging a solid 4.6 yards per carry, but he has yet to find the end zone. Pollard missed Wednesday's practice with a foot injury. Still, his status improved throughout the week and he practiced fully on Friday, leaving him without an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Tyjae Spears (ankle), meanwhile, is questionable with an ankle injury, and head coach Robert Saleh said Friday that Spears still has some "hurdles" to clear before playing. Baltimore has allowed five rushing touchdowns through three games, near the bottom of the league, although opponents are averaging just 4.1 yards per carry. Pollard could get a similarly large workload if Spears sits, but Tennessee's inability to score makes his ceiling hard to trust. He's a volume-based FLEX option rather than a must-start.
Makai Lemon, Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Makai Lemon hasn't made much of an impact during the first three games of the season. Heading into Week 4, Lemon has recorded seven receptions for 38 yards with zero touchdowns. The rookie wideout hasn't contributed much, but his role is likely going to grow this weekend.
Fellow wideout DeVonta Smith (hamstring) has been ruled out for the Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. With Smith sidelined, Dontayvion Wicks and Lemon will be the primary pass-catchers this weekend. Lemon should force his way into the FLEX conversation as he moves into the No. 2 role in Week 4.
Emanuel Wilson, Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks running back Emanuel Wilson is in line for a big role in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Seahawks will be without rookie running back Jadarian Price (chest), who picked up two DNPs and has been ruled out for Week 4. Wilson has been the preferred running back for carries behind Price throughout the season. Wilson hasn't been particularly efficient this season, but he managed 92 yards on 21 carries in Week 2 mop-up duty.
Seattle is expected to play from ahead for most of their matchup with the Chargers this weekend, which should give Wilson plenty of chances to get touches. Wilson is unlikely to see much receiving volume this week, but he is the Seahawks' goal-line back. As such, he should have a chance to fall into the end zone this weekend and accumulate decent yardage. He is a risky play because of his limited passing-game usage, but he will be the starting running back on a good offense this week. Wilson can be best viewed as a FLEX play in Week 4.
Jauan Jennings, Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jauan Jennings has had a quiet start to the season, but he could have a new opening when the team hosts the Miami Dolphins now that star Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson (ankle) has been ruled out. The veteran receiver played 80% of offensive snaps last week after Jefferson departed, but the bigger issue is that the Vikings' passing game has struggled immensely.
Minnesota ranks last in the NFL in net yards per attempt, though they face a Dolphins defense that has allowed points on half of opponents' possessions. The matchup looks great, and Jennings should see an uptick in snaps, but the state of the Vikings' passing offense is likely too risky for most formats until quarterback Kyler Murray clicks with his new team. Jennings has a pathway to more involvement, but as RotoBaller's No. 63 receiver this week, he's likely best saved for deeper formats.
Emeka Egbuka, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka has not lived up to expectations during the first three weeks of the season. It's unlikely to improve with Baker Mayfield (thumb) out for at least three weeks. Now, the Bucs turn to undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels to lead this offensive unit. Fantasy managers should expect most of the offensive-skilled players to take a hit with Daniels under center.
Egbuka saw a season-high nine targets last week, but we'll see if the Bucs continue throwing his way as frequently this weekend. With the QB downgrade, fantasy managers should consider Egbuka a WR3 for the upcoming matchup against the Green Bay Packers.
