Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 3:
Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson led all pass catchers Sunday at Chicago by accumulating 55 yards on three catches, mostly a byproduct of a run-first game script during poor weather conditions in the upper Midwest. Minnesota held on to win 9-3, though neither side scored a touchdown or threw for 200 yards.
That meant quiet offensive days for everyone, including Jefferson, who still led the team with six targets despite the Vikings throwing only 20 times. On the positive side for fantasy managers, Minnesota is likely to see the return of quarterback Kyler Murray (concussion) in Week 3 at Tampa, which should provide more opportunities in the passing game.
Cooper Kupp, Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Cooper Kupp (back) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports. Kupp was dealing with a back issue last week as well, but he still managed to suit up on Sunday. He hauled in both his targets for 20 yards in the win over the Arizona Cardinals.
The expectation is that the Seahawks are just being careful with the veteran wideout to begin the week. Barring any setbacks, Kupp should be ready to go for the Week 3 matchup against the Washington Commanders. Kupp has four receptions for 55 yards through the first two games of the season. He offers some deep league appeal, but he isn't someone who must be started right now.
Xavier Hutchinson, Houston Texans
With Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins (hamstring) potentially missing another game in Week 3 against the division-rival Indianapolis Colts this weekend, Xavier Hutchinson should be on the waiver-wire radar this week. Hutchinson did not exactly stand out in the box score in the Week 2 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday with Collins sidelined -- he caught three of his nine targets for 37 yards -- but he was targeted a team-high nine times and played 81% of the offensive snaps, which was the most among Houston's pass-catchers.
If Collins misses a second straight game this weekend, Hutchinson will be in line for an elevated role again and could be a nice sleeper flex play in deeper leagues against a Colts defense that has allowed a league-high 337.5 passing yards per game through he first two weeks of the season. Through two games in his fourth NFL season, Hutchinson has six grabs on 15 targets for 69 scoreless yards. He is rostered in 5% of Yahoo leagues, so he is widely available.
Tyler Allgeier, Arizona Cardinals
Arizona Cardinals running back Tyler Allgeier ran for only 10 yards on five carries in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks, and he is a player who could be hitting waivers this week, having now averaged just 3.2 yards per carry through two games. While his latest outing offered few signs of encouragement, the fifth-year player remains one of the league's most valuable handcuffs and still holds standalone value in more favorable matchups, as shown by his 19 total opportunities in a Week 1 win over the Chargers.
Rookie Jeremiyah Love is still ramping up after a high-ankle sprain cost him time at the end of training camp, but through two weeks, Allgeier has seen 25 more snaps and two more carries than the first-rounder. While he may not be startable in a Week 3 matchup against the 49ers, if Allgeier is dropped in this week's initial waiver run, he is a player to pursue aggressively as an important stash wherever bench space allows.
Omarion Hampton, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers running back Omarion Hampton had 23 carries for 94 yards, a touchdown, and a fumble in Sunday's devastating 26-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. The 23-year-old also caught both of his targets for 21 yards. After struggling in Week 1, Hampton bounced back with an 18.5 PPR-point performance that will likely place him among the top-8 running backs this week.
Hampton saw a slight uptick in usage in the Chargers' passing game this week, which boosts his fantasy production for the rest of the season if he continues to get touches through the air. Through two weeks, Hampton has totaled 35 carries for 137 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. The panic meter spiked for the Chargers after dropping their first two games, but Hampton can still be a valuable fantasy asset if he continues to get a lot of volume. Hampton and the Chargers will head on the road for the first time this season to face the Buffalo Bills in Week 3.
