Week 1 Outlooks for Fantasy Football

Kenneth Walker III, Seattle Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III will open the season as the starter against the San Francisco 49ers. Walker is coming off a season in which he performed as an RB1 when healthy. Walker's targets were way up, which helped provide him with a solid baseline in fantasy. He draws a solid matchup in Week 1 against a 49ers team that allowed the third-most fantasy points to opposing running backs in 2024. That number figures to improve with Robert Saleh back as the team's defensive coordinator, but Walker should have lanes to run through.

The Seahawks' offensive line is improved, and the team's offensive coaching staff changes suggest a serious commitment to the run. Walker may cede some work to backup Zach Charbonnet, who has made huge strides as a player, but Walker's big-play ability should keep him among the league's best options at the position if he can stay healthy. As such, Walker is an RB2 with RB1 upside in Week 1.

Jerome Ford, Cleveland Browns

Cleveland Browns running back Jerome Ford will take on the Cincinnati Bengals at home in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season. Ford is expected to operate as the team's workhorse back early in the season, with Quinshon Judkins still unsigned and rookie Dylan Sampson ticketed for a change-of-pace role. The veteran Ford operated as the team's lead back for much of the 2024 season but only managed 565 rushing yards. Ford will take on a Bengals defense that allowed the 15th-most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs last season in Week 1, but the Browns could be playing from behind for the majority of the game against a high-powered Cincy offense. Ford checks in as a low-end RB3/flex option this weekend.

Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers

With the eighth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers selected wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan. The 6-foot-5 rookie is poised for an immediate impact after leading the Big 12 with 1,319 yards and eight touchdowns on 84 receptions last season. His path to a significant role was cleared when fellow wide receiver Jalen Coker (quadriceps) was placed on injured reserve. The Week 1 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars presents a highly favorable opportunity for McMillan.

The Jaguars' pass defense ranked last in the NFL in 2024 and struggled particularly against big-bodied receivers. With the Panthers likely needing a pass-heavy approach, this contest provides an excellent chance for McMillan to establish chemistry with quarterback Bryce Young. Given the lack of depth behind him and the favorable matchup, McMillan should be considered a solid low-end WR2 or high-end WR3, despite the typical rookie inconsistency.
