ANALYSIS: While his teammate at Triple-A,  Andrew Painter, has much higher upside, it does not mean Mick Abel will not carry value. Abel was promoted to Philadelphia on May 18 to make a spot start (and MLB debut) and shined as he stossed six shutout frames with nine punchouts.

In this outing, he allowed just five hits and no walks to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

However, the Phillies opted to have veteran Taijuan Walker replace the injured Aaron Nola (ankle) in the starting rotation following this outing and sent Abel back to Triple-A.

Walker has struggled in his last three starts. During these 12 innings, the right-hander has allowed 16 hits and 10 runs (nine earned).

Since returning to Triple-A following his taste of the majors, Abel has logged 10 2/3 innings with one earned run and a 16:7 K:BB. Painter is Philadelphia's long-term play, but Abel could find value as a short-term option. Through 57 innings at Lehigh Valley this season, Abel has impressed, posting a 2.21 ERA with a 1.23 WHIP and 67 punchouts across 57 innings.

On Sunday, the Phillies announced that not only will Walker be shifting to the bullpen, but Abel is set to take his spot in the rotation. He is slated to make his second career MLB start on Thursday against the Blue Jays. As a result, he is worth adding in all 12-team leagues as he could hold the spot in the rotation until Painter is promoted or Nola returns.
