David Njoku, Browns - Fantasy Football Outlook

It took seven years, but David Njoku finally broke out in 2023. His 81 receptions, 123 targets, 882 yards, and six touchdowns were all career highs. He finished as TE6 for the season. Most of his production came with backup quarterback Joe Flacco under center as opposed to Deshaun Watson. With Watson, Njoku averaged just 38.3 yards on 5.8 targets per game.

With Flacco (and Dorian Thompson-Robinson), he averaged 65.2 yards on 8.8 targets per game. It was a relatively small sample size playing with Watson for only five games, but it's hard to ignore the gaudy stats he put up with Flacco as the signal caller. Not only are we back to Watson in 2024, but the Browns also decided to trade for Jerry Jeudy, a former first-round pick with a lot to prove.

Tight ends often take time to grow as receivers in the NFL, and that was the case with Njoku. We know what he's capable of, but it seems it'll be hard to replicate with more target competition and a less willing pocket passer under center in 2024. He's unlikely to finish inside the Top-6 tight ends again, but he still has a good shot of finishing as a low-end TE1 this season.

- Adam Koffler, RotoBaller

Dalton Kincaid, Bills - Fantasy Football Outlook

Generally speaking, rookie tight ends aren't great assets in redraft fantasy football leagues. That makes it even more impressive what Dalton Kincaid (and Sam LaPorta) accomplished in 2023. The rookie was definitively given the starting job when Dawson Knox suffered a wrist injury midway through the season. From Weeks 7 through 14, Kincaid secured at least five receptions in every matchup.

The steady PPR floor propelled Kincaid to the TE9 in the stretch and a TE11 finish for the entire season. Kincaid finished second on the Bills in targets last season (91), trailing the now-departed Stefon DiggsGabe Davis also made his way out of Buffalo, opening 241 targets between the two wideouts. Rookie Keon Coleman hasn't proved anything yet and veteran Curtis Samuel doesn't profile as a top wide receiver.

Given that Kincaid was a first-round draft pick and will be catching passes from Pro Bowl quarterback Josh Allen, his involvement won't decrease. Any statistical improvement will lead to another TE1 finish.

- Andrew Ball, RotoBaller

Jonnu Smith, Dolphins - Fantasy Football Outlook

Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith is set to play in the best passing offense of his career after stops with the Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots, and Atlanta Falcons. The athletic pass-catcher had a career season in 2023 with Atlanta despite sharing the field with Kyle Pitts and catching passes from Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke.

He set career-highs in targets (70), receptions (50), and receiving yards (582) en route to a TE17 finish in PPR leagues. Now in Miami, he'll face immense target competition from Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, but he should be the primary pass-catching tight end over Durham Smythe, and he'll have plenty of red zone opportunities in one of the league's best offenses.

He's unlikely to be a high-volume receiver next to Hill and Waddle, but he can be a key fantasy contributor in standard or half-PPR leagues with efficiency, splash plays, and red zone activity. Fantasy managers should be looking for upside when selecting late-round backup tight ends, so he's a solid flyer at his low-end TE2 cost in drafts.
