Top 300 Fantasy Baseball Rankings (May Updates) - Nick Mariano's Rest-of-Season Outlooks for Paul Skenes, Christian Scott, Corbin Carroll, more

Corbin Carroll - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB News, Draft Kit

Nick Mariano's top 300 fantasy baseball rankings as of Week 9 (May 2024). His updated rest-of-season rankings and projections for hitters and pitchers.

Hey, RotoBallers! Can you believe it? The fantasy baseball season is flying by; we are already halfway through May. With that being said, it's time for another rankings check-in. Below is another edition of Nick Mariano's updated 2024 fantasy baseball rankings and tiers for roto leagues (5x5 mixed leagues) as of May 17, 2024. These rankings are being released in May and are looking at rest-of-season fantasy baseball rankings and player values for the rest of this MLB season from this point forward. We are following many interesting storylines closely, all baked into these updated rankings.

We have recently seen top prospects such as Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Paul Skenes, New York Mets right-hander Christian Scott, and Milwaukee Brewers southpaw Robert Gasser get the call to the big leagues. Skenes struck out seven in his MLB debut against the Cubs. The rookie phenom followed up his MLB debut with another 11 whiffs over six scoreless and no-hit frames versus the Cubs again on Friday. Since being called up on May 4, New York Mets rookie Christian Scott owns a 4.32 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and a 17:4 K: BB across 16 2/3 big league innings in 2024. At the same time, fantasy managers patiently wait for the call-up of Washington Nationals outfielder James Wood, who is putting up video game numbers, slashing .356/.460/.582 with seven home runs, 25 RBI, 35 runs, and nine stolen bases over 176 plate appearances with Triple-A Rochester.

Cincinnati Reds infielder Elly De La Cruz is off to a terrific start to the season and is making a case to be the top player in fantasy baseball after slashing .270/.370/.503 with nine home runs and 30 stolen bases over 45 games in 2024. Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani is arguably fantasy baseball's top overall player, slashing .358/.426/.676 with 13 home runs, 32 RBI, 36 runs, and 11 stolen bases over 204 plate appearances. Speaking of Dodgers, Tyler Glasnow is the No. 1 ranked pitcher after posting a (6-2) record with a 2.90 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and an 81:16 K: BB over 62 innings this season.

Top 300 Fantasy Baseball Rankings Updates

Injuries continue to pile up as Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner will be out for six weeks due to a left hamstring strain, while Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson is sidelined with a right knee injury. The Cincinnati Reds placed left-hander Nick Lodolo on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday with a left groin strain. Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Ryan Pepiot was also placed on the 15-day injured list with a left lower leg contusion. San Francisco Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee will miss the remainder of the 2024 season after suffering a torn labrum in last Sunday's game versus the Reds.

Reinforcements are coming, as San Diego Padres right-hander Joe Musgrove could return from the injured list on Sunday. At the same time, Colorado Rockies outfielder Nolan Jones began a rehab assignment at Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday.

Some notable performances include Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter, who is hitting .346 (9-for-26) with two home runs and seven RBI over his last seven games. Colorado Rockies outfielder Brenton Doyle is slashing .290/.405/.613 with two home runs, five RBI, nine runs, and four stolen bases over his previous 38 plate appearances. While Skenes and Scott are getting all the headlines, Gasser owns a 0.82 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and six strikeouts over 11 innings in his first two starts in the majors.

Some players are off to a terrific start, while some have struggled mightily to start the season. Which of these starts do we take seriously, and which do we put less stock into? Is it time to elevate our expectations on certain players and elevate touted prospects into a higher tier for fantasy baseball leagues? How much patience must we show for highly touted players who have struggled out of the gate, especially veterans with proven track records?

Hopefully, the rankings below will give you some perspective on our thoughts on these topics and help you assess the strength of your rosters going forward. Let's see where players such as Paul Skenes, Christian Scott, Robert Gasser, Corbin Carroll, Jared Jones, Teoscar Hernandez, Mason Miller, Nick Castellanos, Paul Goldschmidt, Bo Bichette, Brice Turang, Shea Langeliers, and Jo Adell rank. All of them are off to interesting starts in 2024.

Rest-Of-Season Fantasy Baseball Rankings (Week 9 Update)

These rankings will be updated every week throughout the season, so some of these situations are very fluid. It's not panic time yet, and we may not be ready to elevate hot-starting players into the elite yet, either, but it's certainly a good checkpoint for the long fantasy season.

As always, be sure to stay on top of all the MLB news with our running list of 24x7 fantasy baseball news and injuries. And if you don't yet have our free mobile app, be sure to download it and stay on top of all the MLB news and analysis with our free push notification alerts.

Nick Mariano's ranks are as of May 18, 2024. They are for 5x5 category mixed roto leagues and will be updated regularly on our main fantasy baseball rankings dashboard all season long. Be sure to read our daily fantasy baseball analysis articles as well.
