Week 2 Fantasy Football Tight End Outlooks

Tucker Kraft, Green Bay Packers

Green Bay Packers tight end Tucker Kraft scored in Week 1 and looks to make it back-to-back scoring weeks as the Packers host the Washington Commanders in Week 2. Kraft scored on a 15-yard pass from quarterback Jordan Love to kick off the scoring for the Packers in Week 1. Other than that score, the 24-year-old only caught one more pass for one yard on an additional three targets.

The Packers' pass-catchers are heavily reliant on touchdowns rather than target volume, but no pass-catcher saw the field and ran more routes than Kraft did with 92 percent route participation in Week 1. For Week 2 against the Commanders, Kraft is a decent TE1 fantasy play with the hopes that the Packers get pushed by the Commanders on the offensive end.

Zach Ertz, Washington Commanders

Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz had a productive Week 1 against the Giants, securing three of his five targets for 26 yards and a touchdown. He and quarterback Jayden Daniels have developed excellent chemistry on third down and in red zone situations. Ertz had an uncharacteristic sequence on the first drive of the game, where he was flagged for a false start penalty, and then on the next play, he dropped a pass that would have converted a third-and-10.

He redeemed himself later with the score. Now he and Washington face a Green Bay defense that shut down a potent Detroit attack. There weren't many signs of positivity for the Lions offense in their 27-13 Week 1 loss, but tight end Sam LaPorta led the team with 79 receiving yards. Ertz will look to have a similarly productive day against Green Bay on Thursday Night Football and should be viewed as a low-end TE1.

Michael Mayer, Las Vegas Raiders

Fantasy managers who selected Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers (knee) in their drafts this year may want to consider the waiver-wire potential of Raiders tight end Michael Mayer, who figures to be the beneficiary if Bowers is unable to play Monday night against the Los Angeles Chargers. The third-year pro had a nice showing in Week 1, catching all four of his targets for 38 yards after Bowers exited the game.

Bowers told reporters that he wasn't overly concerned about the injury, although the Raiders' final injury report will not be released until Saturday, and there is a possibility he won't be ruled out until Monday, after most games have been played. In the event Bowers is looking unlikely to play, there will be a rush to add Mayer, who has been a capable receiving option in his own right.

Darren Waller, Miami Dolphins

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel offered a vague and worrying update on the status of veteran tight end Darren Waller (hip) on Wednesday. McDaniel said he "expects to not know what to expect" on Waller and that the team "may get to a point where we realize the risk is too great for the rest of the season."

Waller missed Miami's season-opener with a hip injury. It's unclear if McDaniel is referencing the status of Waller's hip or the risk of his general health, which has been an issue for the veteran throughout his career. Waller retired from the NFL in 2024 and only suited up in more than 12 games twice out of eight seasons from 2015 through 2023. He should remain off the radar of fantasy managers for the time being.

Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints

New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson was heavily featured in the team's passing game in Week 1, earning 11 targets and recording eight catches for 76 yards. Perhaps most encouragingly, Johnson was on the field for 99% of his team's offensive snaps. With Saints tight ends Taysom Hill (knee) and Foster Moreau (knee) both sidelined by injuries until at least Week 5, Johnson could continue to shoulder a heavy workload in the games to come.

New Orleans logged 46 pass attempts in Week 1, so even if Johnson's target share drops a bit going forward, he could still be a useful player in PPR-scoring formats. Johnson should be added by fantasy managers as tight end insurance or an injury replacement in deep leagues.

Harold Fannin Jr., Cleveland Browns

Cleveland Browns tight end Harold Fannin Jr. is quickly emerging as a trusted target in the passing game. Rostered in just 34% of leagues, the rookie turned nine Week 1 targets into seven receptions for 63 yards, moving the chains three times and even getting a designed rush for three yards.

That blend of volume and versatility suggests the Browns want him involved, especially with Joe Flacco favoring quick reads over the middle. A tough road matchup with the Ravens could funnel even more short-area looks his way as Cleveland tries to keep the pass rush at bay. In PPR formats, Fannin profiles as a TE1 with streaming appeal and upward momentum. If he's on your wire, he's worth a proactive add before the role expands further.
