Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 2:
Breece Hall, New York Jets
New York Jets running back Breece Hall came out of Week 1 with exactly the kind of workload fantasy managers wanted. The Jets gave him 22 carries; he turned them into 102 yards and a touchdown, and he caught both of his targets for another 16 yards. Braelon Allen was involved, but not enough to blur the pecking order. Hall had 24 opportunities while New York leaned on the run all afternoon.
Green Bay gave up two rushing touchdowns to the Vikings last week, one to Jordan Mason and one to Aaron Jones Sr., and the matchup is not enough to scare anyone away from Hall. RotoBaller has him at RB17 for Week 2. Allen may continue to take a handful of touches, but Hall is still the back this offense is built around.
RJ Harvey, Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos running back RJ Harvey (hamstring) is questionable for Week 2, when Denver will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. Harvey is dealing with a hamstring injury that kept him out of his team's Wednesday practice before he was listed as limited following Thursday's and Friday's sessions.
Harvey was the Broncos' top pass-catching option out of the backfield in Week 1, tying a team-high with four receptions that totaled 23 yards, but got just three carries, recording 18 yards rushing. Harvey is behind starting running back J.K. Dobbins in the pecking order for touches, as Dobbins totaled eight carries this past week to Harvey's seven total opportunities. Still, Harvey is RotoBaller's RB40, while Dobbins is the 29th-ranked running back this week.
Neither player is a great option at this point, especially given what the Denver offense produced in Week 1, when it produced just 176 yards of total offense in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Fantasy managers are better off looking for a different option at the running back position this week.
Carnell Tate, Tennessee Titans
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Carnell Tate takes on an extremely talented Philadelphia Eagles secondary in Week 2. The rookie from Ohio State didn't waste much time establishing himself as a major part of the offense. In his first-ever game last week, Tate tied for the team lead in targets and receiving yards. Unfortunately, that amounted to only four catches for 38 yards, but it is still promising that the No. 4 overall pick seems to have established himself as a core part of this pass-catching group.
Tate also played a team-high 88% of Tennessee's offensive snaps among receivers in Week 1. Philadelphia has one of the best secondaries in the NFL, led by shutdown corners Quinyon Mitchell and Riq Woolen, which will be an incredibly tough test for the rookie. Tate's combination of playing time and targets is encouraging, but fantasy managers should look elsewhere this week given the state of the offense and the matchup. He checks in as a low-end WR3 in Week 2.
Christian Watson, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson enters Week 2 as a high-end WR2 with WR1 upside against the New York Jets after an explosive opener in Minnesota. The former second-round pick out of North Dakota State turned eight targets into six receptions for 147 yards and two touchdowns, highlighted by an 81-yard score. Matthew Golden led Green Bay with 12 targets, so Watson's huge day came without dominating the target share.
Green Bay will need to protect Jordan Love long enough for Watson's downfield opportunities to develop. New York blitzed at a 46.2% rate in Week 1, the third-highest rate in the league. Rookie edge David Bailey generated six pressures from the left side, which could create problems for right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele, who allowed seven pressures against Minnesota.
Bako-Bewele and guard Aaron Banks are both questionable, and the Jets will be without safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (groin). Watson's target competition keeps his floor below true WR1 territory, but his career 17.3 yards-per-catch average and established touchdown upside give him week-winning potential. You can confidently lock him into your lineup as a high-end WR2 (RotoBaller WR14) with legitimate WR1 upside.
In DFS, his explosive profile makes him an appealing tournament option, especially when stacked with Love.
