Time to Drop Justin Fields? Fantasy Football Week 8 Waiver Wire Outlook (2025)

Justin Fields - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

Should I drop Justin Fields for fantasy football Week 8? Is Justin Fields a safe player to cut? Read the fantasy football waivers outlook.

Was it always only a matter of time?

After a 0-7 start, six of those losses with Justin Fields under center, the New York Jets are reportedly heading in a different direction. Fields was benched at halftime in Week 7 for Tyrod Taylor.

Does that make Fields an automatic drop in fantasy football redraft leagues, or is his upside enticing enough to hold onto? Let's dive in.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Should I Drop Justin Fields in Fantasy Football?

Fantasy managers were playing with fire with every passing week Justin Fields was inserted into a starting lineup. There's a gulf between Fields' real-life football talent and what he can produce for fantasy football.

Fields scored 25 or more fantasy points in three of his first four starts. He got knocked out midway through the other, although he was struggling against the Buffalo defense. Despite that four-point effort in Week 2, Fields was the QB4 in points per game after five weeks. A very high rushing baseline, coupled with his team consistently behind on the scoreboard, led to hoards of fantasy points.

We knew first-year head coach Aaron Glenn couldn't afford to keep losing, and Fields' inaccurate passing and tendency to take sacks put the Jets behind the sticks too often. Yet, he still only had 91 passing yards in the last six quarters.

From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, Fields burned fantasy managers when he was pulled from the starting lineup midway through the loss to Carolina.

We may see Fields as the New York starter again this season, as it's unlikely Taylor turns the season around for the Jets. If that comes to be, Fields could return to posting QB1 stats. He could also flounder and pass for under 100 yards. How much do you like to gamble?

Who Should I Pick Up for Fantasy Football?

If Jaxson Dart is still sitting on your league's waiver wire, it's past time to jump on his potential. He's earning more believers with every game, and just posted 29.4 fantasy points (QB3) against Denver, one of the best defenses in football. Like Fields, he adds a rushing baseline that not many quarterbacks give you.

Brock Purdy (toe) may sit out another week. Once he returns, though, he'll deliver outstanding fantasy production. The San Francisco 49ers are passing at one of the highest rates in football, and Mac Jones has been a serviceable fantasy football player in Purdy's absence.

It's a similar story for Joe Flacco, who is averaging 46 pass attempts, 280.5 passing yards, and 2.5 touchdowns in his two games with the Bengals. Cincinnati's defense continues to be a liability, meaning Flacco and Co. will likely be playing from behind often, although that may not be the case this week against the New York Jets.

Speaking of the Jets, the desperate (or two-QB/Superflex) fantasy managers can look in Taylor's direction. The Bengals, as mentioned, are hemorrhaging points to the quarterback position, and Taylor has scored at least 13.9 fantasy points in his last four starts, dating back to 2023. His ceiling, however, may be capped if star wide receiver Garrett Wilson (knee) doesn't return to the lineup.
