Raiders Request Permission To Interview Todd Monken For Head-Coach Position
Lamar Jackson each of the last two seasons, it's no surprise that Monken has become one of the hottest head-coaching candidates in the NFL this cycle. The Raiders are looking for yet another head coach following their axing of Antonio Pierce after only one season as the full-time head coach. In addition to the Raiders, the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars are also looking at Monken, who has 10 seasons of NFL coaching experience. He was also the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator from 2016-18 and the Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator in 2019. Monken helped win back-to-back national championships at the University of Georgia running the Bulldogs' offense from 2020-22 as well.

Chris Boswell Tagged With DNP
Chris Boswell (illness) was listed as a non-participant in Wednesday's practice. The 33-year-old could log a full session on Tuesday but evidently caught something overnight and was unavailable a day later. It's been an incredible season for the veteran -- drilling all 35 extra-point tries while failing to connect on only three field goals. He led the league with 158 points. While Boswell will get another shot at practice time on Thursday ahead of their Wild Card clash with the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday, it's mildly concerning for the Steelers. Defensive lineman Cameron Heyward (illness) is also under the weather and has been a DNP the whole week thus far, so hopefully, it doesn't spread further. Heyward reportedly has the flu, while Boswell's illness has not yet been reported.

According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, former New England Patriots head coach and current University of North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick has no plans to return to the NFL. Belichick's sole focus is on coaching and recruiting for the Tar Heels as he builds for the future in North Carolina. It doesn't mean that the legendary coach will be coaching in the college ranks for the rest of his career, but he'll at least stick around in 2025. NFL Teams Inquiring About Bill Belichick
Tom Brady recently spoke with the legendary coach. Belichick agreed on a five-year deal on Dec. 11 to head to the college ranks to coach the Tar Heels. The Raiders fired head coach Antonio Pierce on Tuesday after just one season as the full-time head coach. The connection would be obvious in Vegas, as Brady and Belichick won six Super Bowls together with the Patriots, and sources are saying Brady thinks the situation in the desert requires a coach with Belichick's expertise. Belichick's contract at UNC includes a $10 million buyout if he leaves before June 1, although it's unclear if it would apply in this situation.

The New England Patriots are scheduled to interview former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel for their head-coaching job on Thursday, according to sources. Vrabel is considered a leading candidate, if not the top candidate, for the Patriots job. A report earlier on Tuesday suggested that Vrabel is also likely the division-rival New York Jets' No. 1 candidate for their head-coaching position as well. Vrabel was the head coach of the Titans from 2018-23 and worked as an assistant coach for the Browns in 2024 after being fired last year. A member of the Patriots Hall of Fame, Vrabel went 54-45 as the Titans head coach. He's ultimately expected to land with New England, which has a desirable situation for a head coach given quarterback Source: FOX Sports - Jordan Schultz
Cowboys Deny Bears Permission To Interview Mike McCarthy
Dak Prescott (hamstring), Jones has praised McCarthy as the leader of the team. Now the Cowboys are on the clock to decide whether they want McCarthy back in 2025 or beyond.

The Dallas Cowboys denied permission to the Chicago Bears to interview head coach Mike McCarthy from their open head-coaching position, according to an ESPN source. McCarthy remains under contract with the Cowboys until Jan. 14, and the Cowboys denying the Bears permission to speak to him about their head-coach job right now could signal that owner Jerry Jones plans to extend a new contract to McCarthy. But if Dallas doesn't re-sign McCarthy by Jan. 14, the Bears could just interview him then if they haven't settled on a new coach by that date. Jets Request To Interview Darren Rizzi For Head-Coaching Job
Derek Carr (hand) only played in four games due to injury. Rizzi joined the Saints as their special teams coordinator in 2019 and was promoted to assistant head coach in 2022. He was also the Miami Dolphins' special teams coordinator from 2010-18. Most likely, New York will go with a candidate with previous head-coaching experience.

The New York Jets requested to interview New Orleans Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi for their head-coach opening, according to a source. While it's highly unlikely Rizzi would be the man to get the Jets' head-coaching position, he did enough in his short time as the Saints' interim coach to be considered for open head-coaching positions. The 54-year-old took over in the Big Easy when the Saints fired Dennis Allen in the middle of the season and he led the team to a 3-5 record to close out the year, even though starting quarterback
