Cal Raleigh Blasts 44th Homer
Cal Raleigh has been in a bit of a slump recently, but was able to make some noise during Saturday's game. Raleigh helped extend the lead with a three-run home run off right-hander Joe Boyle in the third inning. It was his 44th long ball of the season, which now puts him in third place for single season homers by a catcher. Raleigh put together an unbelievable first half of the season, but has really struggled to find the same magic since then. There is still plenty of time for Raleigh to keep mashing and earn himself the single-season homer record for catchers.Source: mlb.com
Seattle Mariners catcher Ethan Salas Cleared to Resume Baseball Activities
Ethan Salas (back) has been cleared to resume baseball activities. The Padres' top-ranked prospect hasn't played in a game since April 17 due to a stress reaction in his back. The 19-year-old played in only 10 games at Double-A San Antonio before succumbing to injury, going 6-for-32 (.188) with a 6:5 BB:K and two steals. With about a month left in the season, there is a chance that he could return before it ends, however, at this point, there is no need to rush it. The left-handed hitter may get assigned to the Arizona Fall League (AFL) for some extra work before the year is out, just like in 2024 when he participated in the AFL. Either way, with just 10 games played at the Double-A level, that's likely where the youngster will begin the 2026 season before making a push to Triple-A. MLB's 19th-overall prospect still has great potential in his bat, so dynasty managers should continue to keep tabs on his progression.Source: Jeff Sanders
San Diego Padres catching prospect Simeon Woods Richardson Needed Parasite Removed
Simeon Woods Richardson (illness) recently underwent a procedure to remove a parasite from his digestive tract. Woods Richardson was placed on the injured list in early August due to an illness. The organization figured out it was a parasite that he likely got from a seafood meal. Now with it removed, Woods Richardson is feeling much better. He lost quite a bit of weight because of this, so he'll need time to build himself back up. Woods Richardson will probably need a few rehab starts, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect him back in the mix until late August. The 24-year-old is really only a deep league option at the moment.Source: startribune.com
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Michael Conforto Exits Early on Saturday
Michael Conforto (knee) was forced to make an early exit from Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Conforto was hit by a pitch in the knee during the sixth inning of this contest. He stayed in to run the bases, but was pulled out of the lineup when his spot came back up in the order. Conforto finished this game 1-for-1 with a double and a walk before exiting. Alex Call took over in the outfield and is likely to play in Sunday's game with the Dodgers scheduled to face left-handed Eric Lauer. That being said, Conforto will likely sit out on Sunday, but fantasy managers should check back for another update.Source: Bill Plunkett
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Gerrit Cole Could Resume Throwing Soon
Gerrit Cole (elbow) is reportedly close to beginning to throw, according to manager Aaron Boone. There was no date or many details, but Cole is scheduled to throw at some point in August. This would be the first time that Cole has pitched since having Tommy John surgery in mid-March. Cole won't pitch during the 2025 season, but the hope is that he'll be ready for the start of the 2026 campaign. It sounds like the veteran right-hander is making progress, but has a long road ahead of him.Source: New York Daily News

James Wood Snaps 21-Game Home Run Drought
James Wood belted his first home run since July 9 to end a 21-game drought in a 4-2 win over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday. Wood led the game off with a 385-foot homer against left-hander Carson Whisenhunt and later doubled to finish 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI. The 22-year-old made his first All-Star appearance and participated in the Home Run Derby last month, but his production over the past few weeks has been abysmal. During his 21-game dry spell, he went a shocking 9-for-80 (.113) with two RBI and 38 strikeouts against nine walks. While Wood did strike out three more times on Saturday, it's encouraging that his power stroke finally came back. Despite his month-long tailspin, Wood is still slashing a more-than-respectable .256/.357/.484 with 25 homers, 73 RBI, 64 runs scored, and 14 stolen bases in 502 plate appearances in his first full season.Source: ESPN
Washington Nationals outfielder Marcelo Mayer Yet to Resume Baseball Activities
Marcelo Mayer (wrist) still hasn't resumed baseball activities since he received an anti-inflammation injection in his ailing right wrist on Aug. 2, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. The Red Sox hoped Mayer would be ready by now, but it appears that surgery is still an option for the 22-year-old rookie. Before a sprained wrist forced him to the 10-day injured list on July 24, Mayer struggled to a .228/.272/.402 line with four homers, 10 RBI, and 20 runs scored in 136 plate appearances. He won't be able to improve on those numbers this season unless his wrist starts responding to treatment.Source: Christopher Smith - MassLive.com
Boston Red Sox infielder Jacob Misiorowski Faces Hitters on Saturday
Jacob Misiorowski (leg) faced hitters over three simulated innings and threw approximately 60 pitches on Saturday. Misiorowski said he felt great afterward and expects to come off the 15-day injured list when he's eligible on Aug. 15, according to the team. Misiorowski landed on the IL on Aug. 3 (retroactive to July 31) with a contusion in his left tibia, an injury that has temporarily interrupted an exhilarating start to his career. The 23-year-old flamethrower has logged 33 1/3 innings over seven starts and gone 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA, a .96 WHIP, and 47 strikeouts against 14 walks.Source: Milwaukee Brewers
Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Shohei Ohtani to Make Next Start on Wednesday
Shohei Ohtani will make his next scheduled start on the mound Wednesday against the Angels, manager Dave Roberts told reporters. The plan is for Ohtani to throw four innings against his former team. Ohtani reached the four-inning mark for the first time this season in his previous start on Aug. 6 against the St. Louis Cardinals. He held them to one run on two hits while striking out eight and issuing no walks. Ohtani has made eight short starts this year in his return from 2023 Tommy John surgery and recorded stellar numbers across the board. The two-way sensation has put up a 2.37 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP, 25 strikeouts, and five walks in 19 innings.Source: Fabian Ardaya - The Athletic
Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander/designated hitter Brendan Donovan Dealing With Groin Injury
Brendan Donovan (groin) was out of the lineup against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday with tightness in his left groin, Jeff Jones of the BND reports. It's unknown if Donovan will also need off on Sunday, so fantasy managers should check back for more information. Thomas Saggese filled in at second base for him Saturday, while outfielder Lars Nootbaar took over the leadoff spot in the Cardinals' lineup. Donovan made his first All-Star team this year and has hit .278/.349/.402 with nine homers, 43 RBI, 57 runs scored, and three stolen bases in 466 plate appearances. He's off to a slow start in August, though, having gone 4-for-24 with no home runs and one RBI in six games.Source: Jeff Jones
St. Louis Cardinals second baseman/outfielder Luis Severino Goes on 15-Day Injured List With Oblique Strain
Luis Severino (oblique) on the 15-day injured list with a strained left oblique and recalled southpaw Hogan Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas. The A's put Severino on the IL retroactive to Aug. 6, though the severity of his injury is unclear. The 31-year-old combined to allow only eight earned runs in 23 innings in his four most recent starts, but his overall production still leaves plenty to be desired. Severino has gone 6-11 with a 4.82 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP, and 103:44 in 136 1/3 innings. His strikeout rate of 6.8 per nine is the lowest of his career. With Severino down, 22-year-old righty Luis Morales will make the first start of his career Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles.Source: Athletics
The Athletics have placed right-hander Luis Morales Starting on Sunday
Luis Morales is scheduled to take the mound for Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The 22-year-old is set to make his first career start in the big leagues. Morales made one appearance for the A's before this and threw two innings, allowing one earned run on three hits. The expectation is that Morales will have a limited workload on the mound. The right-hander has a tremendous fastball, but control has been an issue for him. There is plenty of long term upside there, but Morales is unlikely to pitch deep into this game. He'll only offer low-end streaming appeal for Sunday's contest.Source: Martin Gallegos
Athletics starting pitcher Roki Sasaki Beginning Rehab Assignment on Thursday
Roki Sasaki (shoulder) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday. The right-hander threw a successful three-inning simulated game on Friday. He's now ready to take the next step by starting a rehab assignment. The plan is for Sasaki to throw three innings during his outing on Thursday. Sasaki will need to build back up his stamina considering he has been sidelined since mid-May due to a right shoulder issue. The hope is that Sasaki can return by September. He's worth stashing in most fantasy formats if you have an IR spot available.Source: Bill Plunkett
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Wenceel Perez Makes Early Exit on Saturday
Wenceel Perez (leg) was forced to make an early exit from Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. Perez fouled a ball off his leg during the second inning of this contest. He stayed in the game, but was eventually replaced by Zach McKinstry in the fifth inning. The expectation is that Perez will undergo further testing to determine the severity of the issue. For now, fantasy managers should consider Perez as day-to-day. He went 2-for-2 at the plate with a single and a triple before exiting the contest. UPDATE: Tests on Perez's right foot came back negative, and he's dealing with a right-foot contusion. It is painful and swollen, but Perez doesn't have structural damage.Source: Chris McCosky
