Marcelo Mayer Yet to Resume Baseball Activities
Marcelo Mayer (wrist) still hasn't resumed baseball activities since he received an anti-inflammation injection in his ailing right wrist on Aug. 2, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. The Red Sox hoped Mayer would be ready by now, but it appears that surgery is still an option for the 22-year-old rookie. Before a sprained wrist forced him to the 10-day injured list on July 24, Mayer struggled to a .228/.272/.402 line with four homers, 10 RBI, and 20 runs scored in 136 plate appearances. He won't be able to improve on those numbers this season unless his wrist starts responding to treatment.
