Neil Walker Placed On Injured List, J.T. Riddle Recalled
6 years agoThe Miami Marlins placed first baseman Neil Walker (quadriceps) on the 10-day injured list on Friday with a right quadriceps strain and recalled shortstop J.T. Riddle from Triple-A New Orleans in a corresponding move. It's a loss for Miami, as Walker had been one of their better hitters this year, although the lack of counting stats made him mostly an NL-only commodity. Riddle was just 5-for-32 with two homers and three RBI in 15 games before he was sent down earlier this year. Riddle has a career .234 average with 14 homers, 70 RBI and 51 runs over 187 games in the big leagues and figures to be a utility infielder with the Fish. He can also play some outfield. Martin Prado, Miguel Rojas and Garrett Cooper are all platoon options at first base in the absence of Walker, but none of them are attractive in mixed leagues.
