4 years agoVeteran left-hander Martin Perez agreed to a one-year, $5 million guaranteed deal to re-sign with the Boston Red Sox over the weekend, according to a source. The deal includes a club option for a second season in 2022. The 29-year-old southpaw went 3-5 with a 4.50 ERA in the shortened 2020 season with Boston. He was 10-7 with a 5.12 ERA with the Twins the year before in 2019. Before that, Perez spent seven seasons with the Rangers and posted double-digit wins three times. Boston initially made Perez a free agent when they declined his $6.85 option for the 2021 season. He's still on the right side of 30 until April 4, but Perez doesn't excite fantasy managers much with his 5.9 career K/9 in 988 2/3 innings over 169 starts. The Red Sox are hoping he can eat some innings in the rotation until Chris Sale (elbow) returns from Tommy John surgery.
