Justin Steele Leaves Start Early With Arm Injury
2 years agoChicago Cubs left-hander Justin Steele (forearm) left his start early on Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays with left-forearm tightness, the team announced. Steele made it through three scoreless innings without allowing a hit and striking out one to drop his season ERA to 2.65 before departing. The 27-year-old is a very good bet to land on the injured list, but we'll have to wait for more word from the Cubs either later on Wednesday or early Thursday morning. Entering Wednesday's start, Steele had been turning heads in 11 starts in 2023, going 6-2 with a 2.77 ERA (2.85 FIP), 1.11 WHIP, 16 walks and 57 strikeouts in 65 innings pitched. If he's forced to miss extended time, Hayden Wesneski is probably the most likely candidate to replace him in Chicago's starting rotation.
