Jahmyr Gibbs Could Be Three-Down Back
2 years agoNFL Films senior producer Greg Cosell believes that rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs, whom the Lions took at No. 12 overall in the first round of this year's NFL draft, can become a three-down back for the team. "Gibbs' 2021 Georgia Tech tape and 2022 Alabama tape showed a back with high-level traits and a complete skill set to be a three-down back at the next level. While it is not likely he will be a foundation volume runner at the next level, Gibbs showed the explosive traits that get coaches excited with both sudden lateral agility and quickness in confined space and smooth and fluid almost subtle shiftiness at the second and third levels of the defense to make defenders miss without losing quickness and speed," Cosell said. With D'Andre Swift now gone, Gibbs will at least be Detroit's pass-game back in his rookie season, and he eventually could take over primary duties from David Montgomery by season's end.
