Dolphins Sign Durham Smythe To Two-Year Extension
2 years agoThe Miami Dolphins signed tight end Durham Smythe to a two-year extension for $7.75 million on Monday, according to a source. The deal includes $5.5 million fully guaranteed. It's a raise to $4.5 million for Smythe in 2023, and the deal has a maximum value of $8.75 million. The 27-year-old was drafted by the Dolphins in the fourth round in 2018 out of Notre Dame, and he has 88 receptions on 115 targets for 809 yards and three touchdowns in 79 games (56 starts) in his five years with the team. Smythe has mostly been a blocking tight end for Miami, but he could be in for a much bigger pass-catching role with Mike Gesicki now in New England and Hunter Long in Los Angeles. The Dolphins are likely to address the position in this year's draft, though, so Smythe isn't guaranteed anything just yet.
