San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that defensive end Dee Ford (back) will not be activated from Injured Reserve and won't return for the rest of the 2021 season. The 30-year-old has been sidelined since late October. He'll finish the season with five tackles (three solo), three sacks and a forced fumble in just six games played. Ford's persistent back issues have plagued him for much of his career. Shanahan said the team won't release Ford this season, but it seems increasingly likely that he's played his final snaps with the team. It's also fair to wonder if Ford will be able to play again or if he'll consider retirement this offseason.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
