Hot MLB Prospects to Watch for Fantasy Baseball - Week 3 (2025)

Tommy Troy - MLB Prospect, Fantasy Baseball Sleeper

Andersen looks at the top fantasy baseball prospects risers, sleepers for Week 3 of 2025. These MLB prospects may become strong waiver wire stashes or pickups.

Welcome back, RotoBallers! The 2025 MLB season is in full swing, and we've also seen Minor League Baseball action get underway. During last week's action, there were plenty of big plays and impressive prospect performances throughout Minor League Baseball.

Monitoring the top fantasy baseball prospects who have turned heads thus far is imperative. The players listed here are coming off dominant weeks and have significant long-term upside. Don't be surprised when these exact names are painting corners, mashing homers, and swiping bags at the big league level soon.

Savvy fantasy managers looking for an edge in their leagues should watch these players over the long haul, as they may soon be excellent additions.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Ernesto Martinez Jr., 1B, Milwaukee Brewers

Level: Triple-A
2025 stats: 12 G, .317/.429/.512, 2 HR, 10 RBI, 7 R, 1 SB, 16.3 percent BB%, 16.3 percent K%, .355 BABIP, .433 wOBA, 165 wRC+

Martinez is a 25-year-old first baseman with impressive offensive numbers. The Cuba native has worked his way to the top of the Triple-A pecking order and is in consideration for a spot with the big league club. In addition to mashing at the plate, he offers defensive value with a strong glove at first base and brief experience playing center field last season, too.

Last week, Martinez went 9-for-17 with two home runs, eight RBI, four walks, and three strikeouts. He flashed power and advanced discipline, giving the Brewers additional first base depth to be excited about going forward.

Blake Adams, SP, Colorado Rockies

Level: Double-A
2025 stats: 1 G, 1 GS, 1-0, 5.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, -0.11 FIP, 19.80 K/9, 1.80 BB/9, 0.00 HR/9, 50.0 percent GB%, .000 BABIP

Adams is a former 13th-round pick who has blossomed into one of the Rockies' top pitching prospects. He is known for his advanced control and ability to land pitches in the strike zone, pitching to a strong 8.86 K/9 ratio and 1.84 BB/9 ratio throughout the 2024 minor league season.

He has enjoyed similar success early in 2025, averaging 11 strikeouts per walk. His repertoire is headlined by a fastball and curveball, which complement each other nicely.

In his most recent (and only) start of the 2025 season, Adams struck out 11 batters over five scoreless innings on the mound. He issued just one walk and zero hits along the way, putting Colorado's Double-A affiliate in line to win the game. If the 24-year-old right-hander can continue to pitch well in the minors, he could make the 2026 Opening Day roster or even earn a late-season roster spot in 2025.

Tommy Troy, SS, Arizona Diamondbacks

Level: Double-A
2025 stats: 9 G, .406/.587/.625, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 13 R, 1 SB, 26.1 percent BB%, 17.4 percent K%, .522 BABIP, .550 wOBA, 227 wRC+

Troy was the Diamondbacks' first-round pick in 2023, landing with the club after an impressive stretch at Stanford. He lacks the advanced hitting skills needed to start at the major league level every day, but there's also no denying his ability to put a charge into the baseball from time to time.

Speed is Troy's top trait as he swiped 25 bags on 30 attempts through his first 99 minor league games. He's also average or slightly above average in the field, with shortstop looking like his long-term home. However, a shift to second base would be possible, too.

Last week, Troy went 11-for-21 with one home run, three doubles, three RBI, 10 walks, six strikeouts, and a stolen base. There's a lot to take away from this stat line, but nothing is more eye-opening than his walk total. Commanding free passes in nearly one-third of his trips to the plate, Troy is flashing a sort of plate discipline we haven't seen from him before.

Jackson Kent, SP, Washington Nationals

Level: High-A
2025 stats: 2 G, 2 GS, 1-1, 8.2 IP, 1.04 ERA, 2.25 xFIP, 15.58 K/9, 3.12 BB/9, 1.04 HR/9, 40.0 percent GB%, .286 BABIP

Kent, a 22-year-old southpaw, was the Nationals' fourth-round pick last summer. The University of Arizona product possesses an advanced repertoire featuring a fastball, curveball, slider, cutter, and changeup. He relies on the fastball more often than not but also gets great results on his changeup, which carried a 45 percent chase rate during his senior collegiate season.

Making his second pro start last week, Kent struck out nine batters over five scoreless innings of work. He surrendered one hit and zero walks, bringing his ERA down to just 1.04 while his strikeout rate continues to soar at 15.58 K/9. Maybe Kent won't be able to sustain these elite numbers all season long, but he's still a high-upside name to watch in the Nationals system.

Ryan Nicholson, 1B, Los Angeles Angels

Level: High-A
2025 stats: 8 G, .393/.514/.643, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 2 R, 18.9 percent BB%, 18.9 percent K%, .476 BABIP, .521 wOBA, 204 wRC+

Nicholson, a product of the University of Kentucky, found his way to the Halos as a 10th-round draft pick last summer. Immediately upon making his pro debut, he registered competitive at-bats and showed off advanced plate discipline. He also has the potential to deliver above-average power from the left side of the plate. Defensively, he'll likely find himself stuck at first base on days when he's not DH-ing.

Nicholson finished last week 9-for-20 with four doubles and one home run. He also drove in eight runs, walked six times, and racked up four strikeouts. Nicholson's walk total exceeding his strikeout total isn't something we'll see him replicate too often in the future, but last week does offer a glimpse into his plate discipline and offensive upside. If he can continue to draw walks while driving in runs and slugging extra-base hits, he'll rise through the minors very quickly.
