Welcome to the Wednesday, September 25th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.
Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.
In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on September 25th. Enjoy them. - Denny’s Table for Two. Trea Turner & Jose Ramirez w/Grand Slams. Give JRam extra helpings. (2HR, 7RBI).
- Jon Berti rolling on 16sb but he keeps ‘em clean.
- I’m sorry, the Gerrit Cole is out of your price range. Maybe you’d like something in the discounted rack for 2020. The Aaron Nola perhaps. Yes, yes I would.
- Max Scherzer needed the run support today for 11th W. 6IP, 4ER, 10K.
- Bryce Harper sends a 442ft love letter (34). Yep, it’s addressed to himself.
- Sonny Gray loses. Still has 2.80ERA. 19.3%K-BB.
- 35-year-old Ryan Braun still flexing. 21HR, 11SB, .283AVG.
- Jake Odorizzi dominated! Should I list all the people inferior to his 15 wins?! **whisper—"It was Detroit"—** Silence!!
- Never forget about the Regulars. Kevin Newman w/10HR, 16SB, .309AVG. That will keep things afloat.
- Kyle Hendricks, it’s the Pirates. Why get so frazzled? 6IP, 5ER.
- Trey Mancini rolls the dice, YAHTZEE! 5-for-5.
- This was the Dylan Bundy you wanted. 7IP, 2ER, 6K. Woah! Slow down. It’s still Bundy.
- Ji-Man Choi continues to prove me wrong. Third homer this week (18) says “This is why Nathaniel Lowe isn’t needed.” Ok. Roll w/him.
- Wow, how I’ve missed my Yonny concerts. Yonny Chirinos still knocking the rust off his performances. 3IP, 1ER.
- No running on Austin Romine!! On Tuesdays! Dated the 24th! Austin Meadows & Tommy Pham left apologetically.
- I guess I’ll give Michael Conforto an extra look this offseason. Maybe the time has come. 33 scoops of Metropolitan ice cream.
- I’m sorry. I just heard the news. How are you taking it? Yes, it’s unbelievable. Noah Syndergaard is an SP2, at best.
- Mookie Betts hobbles off, but not before singing 'Sweeeeeet 29’ (long balls).
- Stink-palm of a win. Eduardo Rodriguez makes you feel dirty after that one. 5IP, 7ER, 6K for 19th W.
- Rougned Odor, if you’re going to impersonate the old Joey Gallo’s batting average, do the HRs as well.
- It’s been so long, the drum is beating itself for Oscar Mercado. 15HR, 15SB, .280AVG. Only 53% owned.
- Mike Clevinger is so dreamy. 27.4%K-BB (ranks 5th in MLB w/120IP min.) 2.39ERA leads baseball.
- Ronald Acuna is on fire! He’s out there twerking his hips. (Huh? He did what?) Sorry, Acuna tweaked his hip. Carry on.
- Danny Duffy is flying under the radar w/his success. 2.37ERA & 2W over last 30 days.
- You see what happens when there is no Carlos Martinez? Blown saves happen & Jack Flaherty gets upset: “Seven one-hit innings w/11K was all for NOTHING!” A bit dramatic, but I see his point.
- Yeah, yeah. It’s not a SB; quit whining like a kindergartner who missed nap time. Paul Goldschmidt hit his 33rd golden arch.
- FINALLY! Garrett Hampson is getting playing time. Serve up the steals! “Here are two big-boy steaks for you” Uh, ok. This will do. Thank you.
- No, really. It’s not a fable. It’s a Story about a young man named Trevor who becomes a top-10 selection in the Draft Across The Lands. His neck is adorned with a medallion with the characters '34HR, 21SB, .295AVG’ stamped on it.
- I admit my ignorance drafting Andrew Benintendi in the second round. Any other player from the second or third round (minus Stanton) would have been a better choice. 10SB was helpful though.
- Be still, Khris Davis. I’ll be back in 2020 to pick you up late.
- Sneaky saves everywhere. Daniel Hudson w/four saves in last seven games. 15% owned.
- What is Brad Miller drinking? Two two-homer games in the last four days.
- Alex Bregman turns the big 40. An awkward emotion drifts through the air. Onions, I think. Yes, definitely onions.
