Streaming Wars: Waiver Wire Targets for July 6

Brad Johnson's fantasy baseball daily streaming picks for July 6. Pitcher and hitter streamers for MLB DFS games, and head-to-head (H2H) waiver wire targets.

Welcome to Streaming Wars, your one-stop shop for streaming the waiver wire. Use this column to improve upon your neediest categories.

Below are your pitcher and hitter streaming targets for Thursday, July 6th.

Let's get to it.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Agenda

  1. Just Watch
  2. Today's Weather and Updates
  3. Tomorrow's Picks

1. Just Watch

Just watch. It's effortless.

2. Today's Weather and Updates

The action in St. Louis is at risk of postponement. There is a 60 percent chance for storms all evening. Check again closer to game time. Lesser threats include Minnesota, Texas, and Washington D.C. A few venues may get wet tomorrow, including D.C., Cleveland, St. Louis, and Minnesota.

3. Tomorrow's Picks - Thursday, July 6th

Pitchers to Use

I like Mike. Specifically Mike Montgomery, Mike Foltynewicz, and Michael Wacha. They represent the only pitchers I'd consider streaming tomorrow. Monty outperforms his peripherals by inducing a high ground ball rate with plenty of strikeouts and decent command. His walks are up this year but not enough to be concerned. The Cubs offense has yet to give him much run support - he's sporting a 1-5 record on the season. That may change opposite Zach Davies. The Brewers lineup can mash. It's a risky matchup.

Folty also has a difficult assignment. He'll see the Nationals. In five of his last six outings, Foltynewicz has allowed a total of four runs in a total of 33 innings. The unmentioned appearance was a 3.1 inning, eight-run drubbing at the hands of... the Nationals. He has three such meltdowns this season. When he breaks, he breaks.

Other Targets: Wacha

Pitchers to Exploit

Sal Romano was once viewed as a solid pitching prospect thanks to 95 mph velocity and a decent slider. He struggled to induce strikeouts in the upper minors, and he'll have even more trouble at Coors Field. It should be illegal for visiting teams to use an unestablished rookie in Colorado. His opponent, Tyler Chatwood, is superb on the road and quite bad at home.

Paul Blackburn will remain in the Oakland rotation at the expense of Jesse Hahn. The soft-tossing righty is a pitch-to-contact ground ball guy. It's a profile that usually requires a year or two of adjustment.

Other Targets: Anibal Sanchez, Tom Koehler, Chad Kuhl, Jeremy Hellickson, Francisco Liriano, Dinelson Lamet, Josh Tomlin, Sam Gaviglio

Homers on the Wire

I'm struggling to find truly juicy power targets. There are plenty of guys who could do something, but nobody's matchup portends epic blasts. I do like the Phillies stack opposite Kuhl. All of Aaron Altherr, Odubel Herrera, Nick Williams, and Tommy Joseph are available in over 50 percent of leagues. Williams is probably the most interesting due to the short track record while Altherr is the most reliable of the group.

Luke Voit hit his fast home run of the season on Monday, and he was instantly rewarded with a start as the cleanup hitter on Tuesday. Voit may be the next out-of-nowhere hitter in St. Louis. He has that sexy mix of hard contact, plate discipline, and enough fly balls to pop a few bombs. Tommy Pham, Randal Grichuk, and other Cardinals are also of interest.

Other Targets: Enrique Hernandez, Jed Lowrie, Matt Joyce, Mitch Haniger, Max Kepler, Robbie Grossman, Mitch Moreland, Lonnie Chisenhall, John Jaso, Orlando Arcia

Steals on the Wire

Bradley Zimmer generally bats eighth or ninth for the Indians. Despite some notable flaws at the plate, he's held his own with the help of a .376 BABIP. He's shown off good wheels with eight steals in nine attempts (142 PA). He has big power upside too, although he hits too many ground balls to regularly escape the yard.

Other Targets: Jarrod Dyson, Jose Pirela, Michael Taylor, Adam Frazier

Skill Positions

Well, it's an Austin Barnes day tomorrow, but Robbie Ray is hardly the lefty you want to target.
