Fantasy Football Drops Before Week 11 - Time To Say Goodbye?

Jacory Croskey-Merritt - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL DFS Picks

John's top fantasy football drops to consider making before Week 11 of the fantasy football season. Time to say goodbye to players like Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Jordan Mason, and more?

Dropping the right players at the right time makes a ton of sense in fantasy football. If a player doesn't have a lot of upside to bring your team down the road, it makes little sense to continue wasting a bench spot on them.

It's generally a better idea to look for high-upside stashes, because even if they don't do anything, you can drop them anyway, but if they have a higher chance of actually helping you win, it makes sense to roster them instead.

The dreaded "Roster Clogger" archetype of player can be a huge detriment to your team. It can prevent you from stashing running back backups to injured players, like Rico Dowdle and Kyle Monangai, who both went on to have excellent games as a result. So who should you drop ahead of Week 11?

Editor's Note: The FFPC Baby Gorilla Tournament is now open, featuring a $100,000 grand prize and a $675,450 total prize pool! This 12-team, Tight End Premium contest uses a 20-round draft format, with the overall winners determined by total points scored during Weeks 15–17. Players to Consider Cutting for Week 11

Jacory Croskey-Merritt, WAS - 74% Rostered

Croskey-Merritt was benched in Week 10 in favor of Commanders running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. It was only a shoulder injury to Rodriguez that put Croskey-Merritt in the starting role again, and we yet again saw the biggest flaw in his game exposed -- his inability to play with power and run through tackles.

Croskey-Merritt has extremely poor contact balance. It's surprising that a seventh-round pick ever got the level of hype he did, though his big game against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4 was seen as a breakout effort. He's been miserable to have in fantasy ever since, and lost countless fantasy managers multiple games.

Without a goal-line role, a starting role, or a pass-catching role, it's remarkably difficult for a running back to be productive in fantasy leagues. Perhaps there are still managers clinging to the idea that he'll earn his starting job back, or absolutely sure that Rodriguez MUST suck, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

If you can get anything by trading him away, you might as well do it. If not, it's fine to drop him for Rodriguez.

Jordan Mason, MIN - 68% Rostered

Mason appears to have lost his starting job to running back Aaron Jones Sr. Mason's streak of production was short-lived, and buoyed largely by a big game against the Cincinnati Bengals, who we now know have arguably the worst defense in the NFL.

Mason is not a pass-catching back, so as the second RB in a committee, he has very little fantasy value. That's manifested itself in scores of 1.6, 4.7, and 4.1 PPR fantasy points in his last three games. If you started him in all of those contests, there's a good chance you lost each one.

If you're in a 12-team (or more) PPR league, there isn't much reason to keep him around. One glimmer of hope is that the Vikings' starting center, Ryan Kelly (concussion), appears to be set to return soon. Perhaps the run blocking in the middle of the offensive line will improve.

The weekly volatility makes him incredibly tough to trust. The return of Kelly will also benefit Jones, though he's less of an in-between-the-tackles runner and more of a pass-catching back. Still, the Vikings don't have an elite offense right now.

They're not scoring anywhere near 30 points per game, and the easy goal-line touchdowns aren't really there for Mason, so he can be safely dropped in most leagues.

Marvin Mims Jr., DEN - 24% Rostered

Mims' chances of taking over the WR2 job are fading quickly, and it looks like the last glimmer of hope for that eventuality might be gone. That job firmly belongs to one of Courtland Sutton or Troy Franklin. Interestingly, it looks like Franklin has secured the WR1 job, at least for now.

He's easily out-targeted and out-produced Sutton over the last three contests, posting a substantial target advantage (27 to 16), catch advantage (15 to 8), and yardage advantage (154 to 131). Franklin also has four touchdowns in his last four contests, compared to just one for Sutton.

Franklin would likely have even more production if Broncos quarterback Bo Nix could play better. He's mostly been terrible when not in a fourth-quarter comeback win against the New York Giants. Against the Raiders in Week 10, he was truly abysmal.

Which underscores yet another point -- how can three receivers be productive in an offense with an unproductive quarterback? It's not likely that that will be the case. Even Sutton has been borderline terrible in fantasy football this season.

Wide receiver Pat Bryant, a third-round pick by the Broncos in the 2025 NFL Draft, has shown impressive flashes so far in his rookie season. He's likely to at least take over the WR3 job at some point soon, and perhaps even challenge for the WR1 role next season, as Franklin often struggles with drops.

I don't see a reason to hang on to Mims any longer.

Kendrick Bourne, SF - 29% Rostered

Bourne has very little upside remaining. An impressive two-game stretch in which he logged 142 receiving yards each contest has given way to him falling back down the depth chart and pass-catcher priority list. It's been WR Jauan Jennings, TE George Kittle, and RB Christian McCaffrey who have handled most of the receiving work in the past few weeks.

In other news, it looks like wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (knee) is finally set to return either this week or next, meaning Bourne will be even further pushed down the target ladder. Pearsall hasn't played since Week 4, but he'll be the team's WR1 or WR2 when he returns.

Bourne's streak was as impressive as it was short-lived. Jennings, despite playing through shoulder, rib, and two ankle injuries, reclaimed the WR1 job when he returned from his injury absence. There are four players who will all be (reasonably) healthy soon who will get the ball before Bourne does.

The former Patriot has seen his snap share decline since his huge games, and has logged just eight catches in that time frame. He's not exactly a red zone threat, either, as he has zero receiving touchdowns on the season. He only ever had a decent role because the 49ers were so decimated by injuries to their pass-catchers.

He doesn't have any trade value left, though it's not like he did in the first place. It's time to cut bait.
