Shaun Albin analyzes which defenses (DEF) to sit or start in Week 7 (2025) of the NFL season, and provides his best fantasy football streaming options.
As the fantasy football season nears its midpoint, streaming defenses has become one of the most effective ways to gain an edge. Injuries, bye weeks, and inconsistent offensive play across the league have opened the door for several sneaky units to provide strong weekly value. Week 7 presents a handful of favorable matchups that fantasy managers can exploit, with multiple under-the-radar defenses trending upward at just the right time.
This week’s slate features a mix of opportunistic defenses facing inexperienced quarterbacks and struggling offenses. The Chicago Bears continue to impress as one of the league’s biggest surprises, while the Miami Dolphins have found new life by attacking vulnerable opponents. Both squads are in position to capitalize on mistakes and could deliver another solid week of production.
Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots find themselves in ideal situations against turnover-prone or one-dimensional offenses. Each defense brings an element of upside—whether it’s Carolina’s matchup against the winless Jets or New England’s combination of creative pressure and elite special teams. Let’s break down the best streaming options available for Week 7 and identify which units can give your fantasy lineup a boost.

Best DST Streaming Options For Week 7
Chicago Bears vs. New Orleans Saints
The Chicago Bears' defense has quietly emerged as one of the early-season surprises in fantasy football. They’ve posted double-digit fantasy points in three of their first four games and held the high-powered Dallas Cowboys to a season-low 14 points back in Week 3. Chicago’s opportunistic approach has been key, forcing turnovers on 19.6% of opponent drives despite managing only five sacks through four weeks.

Up front, the Bears have still found ways to disrupt opposing quarterbacks, ranking sixth in the NFL with a 10.5% QB knockdown rate. Their secondary has been equally impressive, sitting fifth in pass defense and showing excellent communication in zone coverage. However, their biggest weakness remains stopping the run, where they rank just 24th. That could pose a challenge against a New Orleans Saints team that sits 14th in rushing offense and is protecting the ball well, turning it over on just 5.7% of possessions.
For the Saints, second-year quarterback Spencer Rattler will need to build on his first career win from last week. If Rattler can stay poised and make timely throws, New Orleans may be able to keep the Bears’ resurgent defense in check. But if Chicago continues its turnover-fueled surge, fantasy managers should once again view them as a strong streaming option in Week 7, especially given their recent success against young quarterbacks and struggling offensive lines.

Carolina Panthers at New York Jets
The Carolina Panthers' defense has struggled to find consistency through the early portion of the season. Outside of a single standout fantasy performance against the Falcons, they’ve failed to hit the top three in points in any other game. The lack of production has frustrated fantasy managers looking for a reliable streaming option. Issues have ranged from missed tackles to blown assignments in coverage, though the unit still shows flashes of playmaking ability, particularly in pass rush situations.
Week 7 presents a prime opportunity for a rebound, as the Panthers face the league’s only winless team, the New York Jets. This matchup offers Carolina a chance to capitalize on an inexperienced offense and generate much-needed fantasy points.

Jets quarterback Justin Fields has had difficulty moving the ball through the air, with the passing attack ranking 27th in the league. The offense has leaned heavily on its ground game, where it ranks third in rushing yards per game. That will put Carolina’s middle-of-the-pack run defense, currently ranked 16th, to the test. Limiting the Jets’ rushing attack will be critical for the Panthers to control the tempo and force Fields into passing downs.
Adding to New York’s challenges, its defense has yet to generate a turnover in five games, consistently leaving the offense starting with poor field position. With struggles on both sides of the ball, this matchup shapes up as one of the most favorable of the week for Carolina’s defense. Fantasy managers can view the Panthers as a sneaky streaming option in Week 7, with the potential for sacks, pressures, and an opportunistic takeaway or two.
New England Patriots at Tennessee Titans
The New England Patriots entered the season with question marks on defense, but they’ve quietly become one of fantasy football’s most reliable units. The Patriots have scored at least seven fantasy points in all but one game this year and are fresh off an impressive eight-point showing against the high-powered Buffalo Bills offense. Their combination of disciplined schemes and opportunistic play has allowed them to limit big plays while forcing turnovers in key situations.
Week 7 presents another favorable matchup as New England takes on a struggling Tennessee Titans team led by rookie quarterback Cameron Ward. Expect the defense to mix disguised coverages and consistent pressure to keep the young signal-caller off balance throughout the game. The Patriots’ secondary has been particularly sharp, with cornerback Marcus Jones and linebacker Robert Spillane showing tight coverage and ball-hawking instincts that create extra fantasy value through interceptions and deflections.

The Patriots have also been boosted by elite special teams play, becoming the only team in the league to return both a kickoff and a punt for a touchdown this season. Returner Jones has been electric, leading the NFL with 25.3 yards per punt return and posing a threat to score on every touch, which adds another dimension to their overall fantasy appeal.
Up front, Harold Landry III (3.5 sacks), Milton Williams (2.5), and K’Lavon Chaisson (2.5) have anchored a pass rush that continues to improve each week. With rising confidence, a favorable matchup, and a versatile unit capable of creating big plays on both defense and special teams, the Patriots could post a monster fantasy outing in Week 7—and they’re still rostered in just 17% of leagues.
