Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 2:
Baker Mayfield, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield wasn't excellent in the season opener, but he got the job done. Mayfield completed 17-of-32 passing attempts for 176 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions in the win over the Atlanta Falcons.
The passing yardage was low for Mayfield, but he is missing two of his wide receivers in Chris Godwin (ankle) and Jalen McMillan (neck) right now. The three scores gave fantasy managers a good game, so they don't have much to complain about. The Bucs should continue being a pass-heavy offense, which should make Mayfield a viable weekly option.
Mayfield should once again remain in the mid-range QB1 territory for the upcoming Monday night matchup against the Houston Texans in Week 2.
Omarion Hampton, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers running back Omarion Hampton had a quiet game in the team's Week 1 win against a tough Kansas City Chiefs rush defense. The rookie finished with 48 yards on 15 carries (3.2 YPC) and added two catches for 13 yards.
This week, he's facing the Las Vegas Raiders, who got out to an early lead and shut down the New England Patriots' run game in Week 1. Despite the tough matchup, the Chargers are still expected to rely on their young back early in the game.
Fantasy managers should be aware that Najee Harris (eye) is one more week removed from the NFI list and should eat into Hampton's touches moving forward. RotoBaller projects Hampton as the RB17, and he should be started as a high-end RB2 this week.
Brock Bowers, TE, Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers (knee) is officially listed as questionable for the Monday night meeting with the Chargers. The 22-year-old had five grabs for a team-high 103 yards in the Week 1 win over the New England Patriots before being ruled out because of a knee injury.
He didn't practice on Thursday or Friday. However, Bowers was on the field on Saturday for a limited session. Head coach Pete Carroll expects him to be out there for the pivotal AFC West showdown. Still, fantasy managers may want to consider taking a cautious approach in case Bowers suffers an unexpected setback before then.
This won't apply to those who have Michael Mayer stashed for insurance purposes, who can serve as a fantasy replacement if Bowers doesn't suit up. Mayer had 38 yards off four receptions against the Pats.
Quentin Johnston, WR, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston silenced his critics in Week 1 with an impressive 5-79-2 stat line on just seven targets against a tough Kansas City Chiefs defense. Johnston's 97.3% route participation and 66.7% red-zone target rate show that he is a key part of this offense.
The former first-round pick is expected to have a favorable matchup against Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Kyu Blu Kelly, and his big frame could make him a go-to target in the red zone again this week.
Quentin Johnston has a high ceiling and a solid floor for this Week 2 divisional matchup. He is a strong flex option versus the Raiders, and RotoBaller projects him as WR45 this week.
