Top 300 Fantasy Baseball Rankings - Nick Mariano's Rest-of-Season Outlooks for Matt McLain, Alek Manoah, Jarren Duran, more

Matt McLain - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, MLB Prospects

Nick's updated top 300 fantasy baseball rankings for roto as of Week 16 (July 13, 2023). His rest-of-season rankings and projections for hitters and pitchers.

Welcome back, RotoBallers! The first half of the 2023 season is officially in the books. It's time for another rankings check-in. Below is another edition of Nick Mariano's updated 2023 fantasy baseball rankings and tiers for roto leagues (5x5 mixed leagues) as of July 13, 2023. These rankings are being released in July and are looking at rest-of-season fantasy baseball rankings and player values for the rest of this MLB season from this point forward. There are many interesting storylines we are following closely, all baked into these updated rankings.

We have recently seen some top prospects, such as Baltimore Orioles outfielder Colton Cowser, Chicago White Sox outfielder Oscar Colas, and Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Dominic Canzone were recently called up to the big leagues before the All-Star break. At the same time, fantasy managers patiently wait for the call-up of Cincinnati Reds third base prospect Christian Encarnacion-Strand, who is slashing .321/.392/.620 with 20 homers over 65 games in Triple-A, while Detroit Tigers third base prospect Colt Keith, who was recently promoted to Triple-A Toledo, is hitting .414 (12-for-34) with two home runs and seven RBI over 34 plate appearances.

Since being sent back down in late May, Baltimore Orioles' top pitching prospect Grayson Rodriguez has posted a 1.83 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and 51 strikeouts across 34 1/3 innings in his previous six starts. The 23-year-old is lined up for a big league promotion after struggling in the majors earlier in the season. He owned a 7.35 ERA, 1.74 WHIP, and a 56: 21 K: BB over 45 1/3 frames during his first 10 starts.

July Top-300 Updates

Injuries continue to pile up; Los Angeles star outfielder Mike Trout is out 4-to-8 weeks after undergoing surgery to remove his fractured left hamate bone. New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge (toe) has been doing some light hitting but remains without a timetable for a return. Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve (oblique) and designated hitter Yordan Alvarez (oblique) remain on the injured list but could return within the next few weeks. Luis Robert (calf) sat out the All-Star game after experiencing tightness in his right calf during the first round of the Home Run Derby.

Some notable recent performances include Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran, who is hit .609 (14-for-23) with six doubles, two triples, and two stolen bases over his last seven games. After struggling all season and being optioned to the minors in early June, Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah was promoted to the big leagues last Friday. Manoah bounced back by allowing one run on five hits while striking out eight over six innings to earn the win. Houston Astros outfielder Corey Julks is hitting .500 (11-for-22) with two RBI and three stolen bases over his last six games.

Some players are off to a terrific start, while some have struggled mightily to start the year. Which of these starts do we take seriously, and which do we put less stock into? Is it time to elevate our expectations on certain players and elevate touted prospects into a higher tier for fantasy baseball leagues? How much patience must we show for highly-touted players who have struggled out of the gate, especially veterans with proven track records?

Hopefully, the rankings below will give you some perspective on our thoughts on these topics and help you assess the strength of your rosters going forward. Let's see where players such as Jordan Westburg, Colton Cowser, Alek Manoah, Matt McLain, Joe Musgrove, Francisco Alvarez, Mike Trout, Jordan Walker, Ezequiel Tovar, Jarren Duran, Corey Julks, Mickey Moniak, Zach Eflin, Bryce Elder, Marcus Stroman, Mitch Keller, Luke Raley, Bryce Miller rank, all of who have had an interesting first half of the season.

Top 300 Fantasy Baseball Rankings - Week 16 Update

These rankings will be updated every week throughout the season, so some of these situations are very fluid. It's not panic time yet, and we may not be ready to elevate hot-starting players into the elite yet either, but it's certainly a good checkpoint for the long fantasy season.

Nick Mariano's ranks are as of July 13, 2023. They are for 5x5 category mixed roto leagues and will be updated regularly on our main fantasy baseball rankings dashboard all season long. Be sure to read our daily fantasy baseball analysis articles as well.
