Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 4:
Travis Hunter, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said that injuries at wide receiver and/or cornerback won't affect rookie two-way star Travis Hunter's usage. Right now, Hunter is playing just one position at receiver and one at cornerback, although he will build more versatility in years to come.
When Dyami Brown (shoulder) was injured in the Week 3 win over the Houston Texans, Parker Washington played more instead of Hunter. The Heisman Trophy winner has played out of the slot for 63 percent of his routes through his first three NFL games, and he's caught 10 of his 16 targets for 76 scoreless yards.
The 22-year-old had just one catch on two targets for 21 yards last week and was more involved on defense than ever before, which is not what his fantasy managers want to see. It sounds like Hunter's role on offense won't necessarily increase if Brown cannot play in Week 4 against the San Francisco 49ers.
TreVeyon Henderson, RB, New England Patriots
ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss reports that New England Patriots rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson was the first up in a tackling/ball-carrier drill at Wednesday's practice, followed by Antonio Gibson and then Rhamondre Stevenson.
Henderson has been a disappointment for fantasy managers through the first three weeks of his rookie season, but his role might be about to take a huge jump after Gibson and Stevenson combined to lose three fumbles in the Week 3 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The 22-year-old Ohio State product has failed to reach 30 rushing yards in all three games, although he did see a season-high 14 touches on Sunday after Gibson and Stevenson coughed up the football. The Pats will probably continue with a RB committee, but Henderson certainly could operate as the RB1 in Week 4 in a strong matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
Ashton Jeanty, RB, Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders rookie first-round running back Ashton Jeanty said he wants to "set the tone" for the running game and wants the Raiders to be a "physical football team," according to Hondo Henderson of SI.com. "I feel like it starts with me in the running game," Jeanty added.
The 21-year-old was a tackle-breaking machine in college at Boise State, but so far through three games in the NFL, he's underwhelmed for fantasy managers who took him early in drafts as their RB1. He has 47 carries for 144 yards (3.1 yards per carry) and one touchdown, adding five catches on six targets for an additional three yards.
Jeanty had a season-high 63 rushing yards in the Week 3 loss to the Washington Commanders, but he wasn't targeted at all, and his lack of involvement in the passing game has to be a concern. He'll have a prime opportunity for a breakout game in Week 4 against a banged-up and suspect Chicago Bears defense.
Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers rookie wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan (calf) returned to practice on Thursday after sitting out Wednesday, a positive sign for his availability in Sunday's matchup with the New England Patriots. With Xavier Legette (hamstring) still sidelined, McMillan is positioned to handle a large share of the passing volume in Week 4.
The 2024 second-round pick has been productive early, posting 216 yards through three games while emerging as Bryce Young's most reliable option. Although he's yet to find the end zone, that could change this week against a Patriots defense that has already surrendered five passing touchdowns.
Fantasy managers should start McMillan as a WR2, especially in deeper leagues, as he brings both a solid target floor and intriguing upside in a game where Carolina could lean heavily on him. UPDATE: McMillan was listed as limited on Thursday.
Matthew Golden, WR, Green Bay Packers
It has been a slow burn for Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden, as his first three games in the NFL have drawn mixed reviews from fantasy managers who drafted him in the middle rounds.
Through three games, Golden has a combined eight targets, six receptions, and 68 receiving yards, with most of that coming in his best game to date in Week 3, where he caught four balls for 52 yards. He ran routes on 84 percent of quarterback Jordan Love's dropbacks and earned 22 percent of the first-read targets as well. To say Golden has been a disappointment is fair, but his role is growing.
Golden could keep his ramp-up going in a great matchup against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4, but we need to remember that Golden has a shockingly low fantasy floor. That said, Golden is an upside flex play for fantasy managers in Week 4 in the hopes that the downfield work and the Cowboys' porous defense converge to result in Golden's breakout game.
