Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks

Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 2:

Hunter Henry, TE, New England Patriots

New England Patriots tight end Hunter Henry didn't wow anyone with his production in the Week 1 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, but what did stand out was that he played 93 percent of the offensive snaps and was tied for the team lead in targets with Kayshon Boutte with eight.

Henry hauled in four of his eight targets for 66 yards, which was second on the team behind Boutte's 103 receiving yards. If you are already streaming tight ends going into Week 2 or just lost George Kittle (hamstring) for three to five weeks, Hunter is absolutely worth looking at on the waiver wire going into a Week 2 meeting against a Miami Dolphins defense that just gave up 33 points to Daniel Jones and the Indianapolis Colts.

Austin Hooper was only on the field for 23 snaps and caught one pass for 10 yards. Hunter Henry is currently rostered in 59 percent of Yahoo leagues.

Isaiah Likely, TE, Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely (foot) was in uniform and doing a workout in front of the training and medical staff on Friday, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. Likely has "upped his activity level" and is getting closer, but he won't play in Week 2 against the division-rival Cleveland Browns.

It sounds as though Likely could return as early as Week 3 against the Detroit Lions after fracturing his foot in training camp. The 25-year-old will miss a second straight game to open the year, giving veteran tight end Mark Andrews an opportunity for increased opportunities this Sunday after he fell flat in the season-opening loss to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday night, when he had just one catch for five yards.

We'd expect Mark Andrews to be more involved this weekend versus the Browns, especially if receiver Rashod Bateman (undisclosed) cannot play.

Travis Kelce, TE, Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce took accountability after colliding with second-year wideout Xavier Worthy on the opening drive of the season. The collision left Worthy with a dislocated shoulder that sidelined him for the rest of the game. "There is no excuse for me running into my own guys like that," Kelce admitted on the New Heights Podcast.

Worthy's early exit appeared to rattle the Chiefs' offense. Without his speed to stretch the field, the Los Angeles Chargers defense was able to apply pressure on Patrick Mahomes, limiting Kansas City's explosive plays and ultimately sealing a win.

With Worthy's recovery timeline still unclear, the Chiefs will look to Marquise Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster to carry the receiving load, while Kelce is expected to play an even bigger role in the passing attack.

Sam LaPorta, TE, Detroit Lions

Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta was one of the few Lions who delivered a decent fantasy performance in Week 1, hauling in six of his nine targets for 79 yards against the Green Bay Packers. LaPorta will now face the Chicago Bears in Week 2, a team he has scored three touchdowns against in four career games played.

Chicago allowed just three catches and 15 yards to Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson in Week 1. LaPorta's Lions have health and productivity questions along their offensive line, but that could actually help LaPorta's outlook by forcing Jared Goff to target the short and intermediate areas of the field more often.

Sam LaPorta remains a must-start fantasy tight end regardless of matchup, and a top 10 option against the Chicago Bears in Week 2.

Brenton Strange, TE, Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange was one of the team's offensive standouts in a 26-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers in Week 1. The former second-round pick from Penn State formed a nice connection with quarterback Trevor Lawrence, catching all four of his targets for 59 yards. It was Strange - not WRs Brian Thomas Jr. or Travis Hunter - who led the Jaguars in receiving yards.

Strange also played 79 percent of the Jags' offensive snaps, trailing only Thomas among the team's receivers and tight ends. It appears Strange is going to have a major role in Jacksonville's offense under new head coach Liam Coen this season, yet he is only rostered in 22% of Yahoo leagues heading into a meeting with the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2.

Considering the Bengals allowed a combined 10 catches and 100 yards to Cleveland Browns tight ends Harold Fannin Jr. and David Njoku in Week 1, fantasy managers looking for help at TE should consider Strange.

Michael Mayer, TE, Las Vegas Raiders

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Michael Mayer may be due for an elevated workload this Monday night when he faces off against the Los Angeles Chargers. Mayer saw an increased snapshare in Week 1's win over the New England Patriots when teammate Brock Bowers (knee) picked up a knee injury.

Bowers was tagged with a DNP on Thursday, and with the Raiders playing on Monday night, it's possible we won't know his definitive status in time for Sunday roster decisions. In the case he can't go, Mayer would slot in as Las Vegas' de facto TE1 and should see a good bit of work in the passing game.

If Bowers plays, the Notre Dame product would be difficult to trust, particularly in a difficult matchup. Mayer comes in as RotoBaller's PPR TE39 ahead of Week 2.
