Quentin Johnston Injury Update
Johnston sat out last week's game against the Miami Dolphins due to a hamstring injury that had limited his practice participation. This was his first injury designation of the season, as he had appeared in all games without any health-related issues.
Several NFL reporters have noted that Johnston's hamstring issue does not appear to be a long-term concern, though the Chargers have yet to confirm his official recovery timeline.
This week's current injury report lists Johnston as limited, so fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status for Week 7. The Chargers appear to be taking a cautious approach with their top receiver, as hamstring injuries can be tricky, and continuing to aggravate that injury could sideline him for additional games.

Quentin Johnston Fantasy Football Outlook
Through his first five games of the 2025 season, Johnston has been one of the breakout stars, recording 26 catches for 377 yards and four touchdowns. He's currently on pace for 1,432 yards and 17 touchdowns, ranking as a top-5 fantasy receiver.
However, concerning trends have emerged in Johnston's usage patterns over recent weeks. After averaging over 12 yards per target through the first four games, Johnston saw his average depth of target drop to just 6.3 yards in Week 5. In that week's loss to the Commanders, Johnston caught all four of his targets for just 40 yards and lost a fumble.
With Johnston sidelined in Week 6, rookie tight end Oronde Gadsden caught seven of his eight targets for 68 yards, seeing a season-high 75% of offensive snaps. Chargers wideouts Keenan Allen and Ladd McConkey saw an uptick in target volume, with rookie receivers Keandre Lambert-Smith and Tre' Harris also factoring into the mix.

If Johnston returns healthy for Week 7 or shortly after, he should resume his role as the Chargers' top receiving option. The encouraging sign is that Johnston continues to earn looks as games progress, rather than relying on schemed early touches. However, fantasy managers should be aware that if the shortened target depth continues, it could impact Johnston's fantasy value on a weekly basis.
Given the cautious nature of hamstring injuries and the Chargers' careful management approach, managers in 12-team formats with an IR spot should continue to stash Johnston. He projects as a mid-to-high WR2 upon return, with WR1 upside in favorable matchups thanks to his rapport with quarterback Justin Herbert.
