The fantasy football world turned its collective back on New England tight end Hunter Henry after quarterback Mac Jones suffered his ankle sprain. Now, the fantasy football world might be back on Henry’s bandwagon thanks to Bailey Zappe being his QB.

Henry was dropped by thousands, if not millions of fantasy managers during the early part of the season when he only had four catches for 41 yards and no touchdowns over New England’s first four games. The injury added to the insult was Jones going down and being labeled as week-to-week and then backup Brian Hoyer getting concussed. Not many fantasy managers thought Henry would bounce back with a third-string quarterback throwing to him, but we were wrong.

Henry has eight receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown over his last two games, and Zappe has been the one zinging passes to him. So, should you pick up Henry this week? Here is my take:

Yes, Henry should be picked up if you are in dire need of a tight end for just a week or for the rest of the season. You cannot forget about what he has done in his career and what he did just last year. The man was ranked among the top-10 tight ends in fantasy football entering the season, and there is no reason to think he cannot claw his way back into that upper echelon at the position, no matter who is passing to him.

Henry struggled during the first month with Jones running the offense, but he set a career-high with nine touchdowns in 2021 when Jones was his quarterback for the entire season, so the two of them obviously have chemistry together. There is no timetable on when Jones will take back over under center, but it should not matter. Henry has proven that he can post nice numbers whether Jones or Zappe is his signal-caller and appears to be over his early-season slump.

Henry is one of the better tight ends in the NFL at finding the end zone once his offense is inside the red zone (31 touchdowns in five-plus seasons), and the Patriots do not have a pass catcher on the roster who can turn receptions into touchdowns as well as he can. The schedule is very fantasy-positive for Henry over the next month. He will have home games against Chicago and Indianapolis, plus a home-and-home against the New York Jets, a team the Patriots own and a squad Henry has two touchdowns against in three career contests.

There are not many, if any tight ends available on fantasy league waiver wires better or more accomplished than Henry. Pick him up and he could give you TE1 value the rest of the way as long as his quarterbacks and his body hold up.
