Tigers Considering Six-Man Rotation
4 years agoThe Detroit Tigers are considering using a six-man starting rotation for at least some of the 2021 season as they return to a normal schedule with a pitching staff that will likely include some of their top prospects, according to general manager Al Avila. Matthew Boyd led the Tigers last year with just 60 1/3 innings in the shortened season. Spencer Turnbull made 11 starts last season, while Casey Mize (No. 1 pick in 2018) and Tarik Skubal made seven starts each with mixed results in their first MLB exposure. Michael Fulmer made 10 starts but never went more than three innings in his return from Tommy John surgery. Daniel Norris and Tyler Alexander are other options, while Matt Manning, a first-rounder in 2016, could make his major league debut at some point. The Tigers could also bring in more help from outside the organization if needed.
