Michael Pineda Says He's Ready
6 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Michael Pineda is being brought along slowly this spring, but he says he is "ready to pitch." He was clocked at 93 mph with his fastball while throwing to live hitters on Friday and said he felt good. Pineda hasn't faced major league hitters since July of 2017 due to a ruptured elbow ligament that required Tommy John surgery. The early signs this spring are positive, though, and he's on track to be a member of the rotation in 2019. The 30-year-old right-hander struck out 10.6 hitters per nine innings with the Yankees in 2016 and could have some AL-only appeal if he's starting regular in Minnesota's pitcher-friendly home park.
