Jose Abreu Takes Home AL MVP Award
4 years agoChicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu won the American League MVP award on Thursday after helping the team reach the playoffs for the first time in 12 years during the shortened 2020 season. The 33-year-old received 21 of the 30 first-place votes. Indians third baseman Jose Ramirez finished second with eight first-place votes, while Yankees second baseman DJ LeMahieu, who won the AL batting crown by hitting .364, finished in third place. Abreu led the majors with 60 RBI and 148 total bases and topped the AL with 76 hits and a .617 slugging percentage, playing in all 60 games. He hit .317 with 19 home runs and had a 22-game hitting streak, which was the longest in the big leagues this year. The 2014 AL Rookie of the Year and three-time All-Star became the fourth White Sox player to win the prestigious award, joining Frank Thomas, Dick Allen and Nellie Fox.
