Joey Lucchesi Traded To Mets
4 years agoThe New York Mets are acquiring left-hander Joey Lucchesi from the San Diego Padres on Monday in a three-team deal, according to multiple reports. The Mets are sending catching prospect Endy Rodriguez to the Pirates, according to a source. Lucchesi is likely to compete for a spot at the back end of the Mets starting rotation behind two-time National League Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom, Carlos Carrasco, Marcus Stroman and David Peterson. Noah Syndergaard (elbow) is expected to return from Tommy John surgery sometime after May. The 27-year-old Lucchesi made 56 starts for the Padres in 2018 and 2019 but struggled in limited action in 2020, going 0-1 with a 7.94 ERA in two starts and a relief outing. Lucchesi will need to get an opportunity to start in New York for him to have fantasy value in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.
