Points leagues are a different beast compared to rotisserie leagues, as you are looking for someone who can fill the whole stat sheet, and when you can find some of those guys on the wire, they are golden.
Here are a few guys who can contribute in deep points leagues, one at each position to consider for the next week. These are your deep points leagues waiver wire pickups for Week 8. Let's get to it.

Points League Deep Waiver Wire Adds - Week 8
C - Cameron Rupp, Philadelphia Phillies - 13% owned
Cameron Rupp displayed solid power numbers for the Phillies last season, smacking 16 home runs over 105 games with a .195 ISO. This season through 28 games he’s hit four HR, carrying a .204 ISO. He has been especially useful over the past two weeks. During that span (52 plate appearances) he has hit .333/.385/.583 with three HR and 10 RBI, occupying the seventh or eighth spot in the lineup. He has risen his walk rate by 5% this season from last, which has caused a nice bump in his OBP. He is a good source of power from the catcher spot while he’s hot, though his .350 BABIP is due to come down.
1B - Mitch Moreland, Boston Red Sox - 13% owned
Mitch Moreland seems to be powering himself out of the slump he’s been in. From April 17 to May 17, Moreland hit .202/.318/.309 with only one HR. Over the past three games he has hit a HR in each game, a solo shot and two two-run HR. Those have been hits only hits in each game, but it’s nice to see the power coming around for him again. He has been a streaky hitter in his career, so this is certainly the time to hop on board while the train is beginning to roll down the tracks. His increased walk rate makes him a valuable asset in OBP leagues also.
2B - Eric Sogard, Milwaukee Brewers - 7% owned
Eric Sogard has been on fire since he joined the Brewers lineup. Over his first seven games, he has hit .476/.607/.905 with two HR, seven RBI, and two steals. Most impressively of all, he has yet to strike out while carrying a 21.4% BB%. He has hit leadoff over the past three games on top of an improved Brewers lineup, which could mean good things for his run totals if he stays up there. His BABIP is an unsustainable .421, so it is likely that number drops at some point. However, while he is red hot he is worth owning and any format. He has always carried low power and low strikeout totals, so add him for a decent average and speed numbers.
3B - Trevor Plouffe, Oakland Athletics - 4% owned
Trevor Plouffe seemingly pops up on these types of lists every year with an impressive hot streak, and right now is no different. Over the past two weeks he has hit .385/.455/.641 with an 11.4% BB% and an 18.2% K%. He has been a good source of runs in that span with 10, while slugging two HR. Plouffe is hitting the ball harder than ever before this season with a 38.3% hard hit %, though he will need to decrease his career-high 51.1% GB% if he wants to keep cranking out HR. Ride him while he’s hot, and don’t be afraid to cut ties once he cools off.
SS - Jhonny Peralta, St. Louis Cardinals - 1% owned
Jhonny Peralta has finally worked his way back from an upper respiratory infection, which kept him sidelined on the DL for over a month. He has had five at-bats since his return, going 4-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored. Peralta has proven to be a valuable fantasy asset in the past, though his only problem now may be a lack of playing time. Jedd Gyorko is hitting well and playing third base right now, so until he cools off the two will split time at best. He will need to get some time in at shortstop also to stay fantasy relevant. If he does get the plate appearances, he can be a solid middle infield option now that he’s healthy.
OF - Lonnie Chisenhall, Cleveland Indians - 3% owned
Lonnie Chisenhall has been on a tear since he’s been receiving regular at-bats in the Indians lineup. He has nearly as many HR this season as he did last season with 300 less plate appearances. On the season he is hitting .279/.340/.581 with six HR and 22 RBI. Due to some injuries in the Indians lineup he has been getting regular playing time, and over the past week he has hit four HR with eight RBI. He isn’t known to be a power hitter, but he is a capable OF bat to own while he’s hitting well in the potent Indians lineup.
SP - Tyler Anderson, Colorado Rockies - 17% owned
It was a rough start to the season for Tyler Anderson. Through his first six starts he held a 7.71 ERA and 1.58 WHIP with a 2.18 K/BB. It was a far cry from last season when he held a 3.54 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 19 starts. However, over his past three starts he has shown signs of life. He has recorded at least seven strikeouts with two or fewer walks in each outing, with a 3.06 ERA and 1.13 WHIP to go with a 5.0 K/BB. Those starts have come against the Diamondbacks, Dodgers, and Reds; three good offenses. If he can continue carrying this success, he can be a valuable waiver wire pickup right now that can be held the rest of the year.
RP - Darren O'Day, Baltimore Orioles - 10% owned
O'Day continues to be lights out for the Orioles this season, sporting a 1.29 ERA and 1.00 WHIP during the month of May. He has held opposing hitters to a slash line of .167/.259/.292 with a 37% K%. He will continue chipping in saves while Zach Britton remains out, although Brad Brach will get the bulk of the save chances. O'Day can provide your team with plenty of holds and provide excellent ratios regardless of his exact role, making him a safe add.
