There are only three games on Monday's slate, tightening up competition. When there is a shorter schedule, it's important to pick players who could break out, but also those who aren't heavily owned. Players who could feast on certain teams' inability to defend their position.

Tonight's lineup features a couple of veterans, a point guard out of Chicago trying to stay healthy, some unlikely candidates, and more.

DraftKings DFS Point Guards

Derrick Rose (vs WAS, $6,000)

Rose appears to finally be healthy, for now. He has scored double-digits in seven straight, while his minutes continue to teeter around and exceed 30 minutes a night. Rose has posted 30+ fantasy points in four out of his last five, and will likely be pinned against one of the league's best point guards in John Wall Monday night. Let's not forget that a healthy Rose can continue to blossom, as he was once considered one of the game's best as well. Washington is ranked in the bottom ten defensively.

Donald Sloan (vs SA, $3,700)

Disaster can harshly described what's been going on for the Nets this season, even more so once Jarret Jack went down with injury. Newly appointed starting point guard Shane Larkin hasn't really impressed in his relief role, nor has Markel Brown in the emerging opportunity. Although Saturday night, Donald Sloan may have solidified increased playing time with just one performance. Against the Pistons, Sloan dropped 15 points, dished out ten assists, grabbed two boards, and nailed two from downtown on three attempts; good for 33.5 fantasy points. It might be difficult for Sloan to clutch onto that type of consistency but if he can produce 20 or more points, he'll be a steal for his low price.

 

DraftKings DFS Shooting Guards

Jimmy Butler (vs WAS, $8,300)

Butler is the best two-guard on the card Monday night and has turned it up of late. Klay Thompson could give him a run for his money for that title, but I'm a bigger fan of Butler's matchup. The Wizards have allowed the fifth most fantasy points to shooting guards this season. Butler has posted 40+ fantasy points in six straight games, including two 50-point performances. In that span he's also collected two double-doubles while sprinkling stats generously throughout the scoresheet.

Danny Green (at BK, $4,000)

Against the Knicks Friday night, Green saw the court for 35 minutes. He'll likely come close to that against the aforementioned woeful Nets. Green has been in a timeshare with Manu Ginobili whose minutes have been a bit more consistent. Either would be a smart play against Brooklyn, actually. Green is coming off a 27.5 fantasy point performance and has been more selective, shooting better from behind the arc; as his reputation as a sharpshooter from long range is starting to come to fruition, slightly. Green is a cheap option and puts enough tiny dents into each scoring category to reach value.

 

DraftKings DFS Small Forwards

Otto Porter (at CHI, $6,300)

Porter has stepped up nicely, and has been a valuable asset for Washington with Bradly Beal continuing to miss action. He has put up three straight 30+ fantasy point performances and heads into a favorable matchup against the Bulls. This season, Chicago surrenders the most points to small forwards in the NBA. His playing time has consistently stayed well over 30 minutes since around Christmas.

Andre Iguodala (vs MIA, $5,000)

Miami has given up the second most fantasy points to the three-spot this season. I'm picking Iguodala over Barnes here, mainly because Barnes has struggled to find his groove since returning from injury. Iguodala hasn't necessarily exploded onto any scoresheet, but is coming off his best fantasy performance in a week, posting 23.0 against the Sacramento Kings. This really is a toss-up between the two, but Iguodala is slightly cheaper, while their minutes played, and production, have been nearly similar of late.

 

DraftKings DFS Power Forwards

Drew Gooden (at CHI, $3,000)

With the potential absence of both Nene and Kris Humphries for Monday's game, Gooden would be the next guy in line to receive a boost in minutes. Jared Dudley would likely get the nod in the starting five, but Gooden's minutes have been subtly increasing since returning from injury on the first day of the new year. His fantasy production has also increased, gently, but has increased nonetheless. If this trend continues, Gooden could make us all smile for his lowest of prices. Understandably there are a lot of if's around this pick, so monitor the health of Nene and Humphries before doing something as crazy as including Gooden in a DFS lineup. (Confidence!)

Chris Bosh (at GS, $7,800)

If the Heat want to hand the Warriors only their third loss this season, they'll need a big performance from their veteran power forward. Granted I'm talking as if the Heat aren't a good team this year, but with the way Golden State has been playing, they could give the famous 1992 Dream Team a run for their money. Along with Dwayne Wade, Bosh is the focal point of Miami's offense. He's almost guaranteed for at least 30 fantasy points, but is more than capable of breaking out for a lot more. This will undoubtedly be a competitive contest, involving a lot of scoring, and bolstered stat lines for multiple players.

 

DraftKings DFS Centers

Tim Duncan (at BK, $5,300)

The Nets have relinquished the most fantasy points to centers so far this season. Duncan hasn't played over 30 minutes in four straight games, but the reliable veteran doesn't need to see a crazy amount of court time to effectively produce at his price. He recently posted two straight 39 fantasy point performances, and will see plenty of openings against Brooklyn to score in double-digits.
