Should I drop Troy Franklin for fantasy football Week 5? Is Troy Franklin a safe player to cut? Read the fantasy football waivers outlook.
Denver Broncos wide receiver Troy Franklin was seen as a potential breakout player for the 2025 season after his 24.0 PPR fantasy point performance in Week 2. That game was easily his best of the season, and he hasn't had double-digit points in any other contest.
With WR Courtland Sutton serving as the team's top receiver, it's been Franklin and WR Marvin Mims Jr. who have shown flashes but failed to put anything consistent together. Mims scored 20.5 PPR fantasy points last week, but scored much of it on a rushing touchdown.
Denver scored 28 points last week, so there was plenty of opportunity for Franklin to have a nice game, but he only tallied 55 receiving yards to Mims' 69. So is it worth it to drop Franklin in fantasy football ahead of Week 5?

Should I Drop Troy Franklin in Fantasy Football?
It's probably not a terrible idea outside of deeper leagues, but his overall usage isn't totally discouraging. He's outsnapped Mims in every game the team has played so far, and has averaged over double the offensive snaps that Mims has had.
The problem with Franklin is that he could be a lot better than he is if he didn't have drop issues. He dropped two passes that could have gone for significant gains in Week 4. It will be challenging for him to earn the trust of his coaching staff and quarterback if he doesn't address these issues.

He left a lot of fantasy points on the table, and will continue to do so if he doesn't figure things out in that area of his game. He's done an overall good job of working within head coach Sean Payton's system to get open and earn targets, though.
Bad hands are an issue that often plagues receivers for much of their careers. It's not like it's impossible to fix, as Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston's breakout season this year is a testament to that. But it could be tough sledding this year because Franklin had issues with hanging on to the ball in college, too.
That said, Franklin's usage is still encouraging, but the presence of Mims makes it challenging to trust Franklin in starting lineups for now. Mims has been separating very well and is nice as a gadget player. The two could alternate in usage in subsequent games.
Who Should I Pickup for Fantasy Football?
At this point in the season, the waiver wire has slim pickings at all positions. Miami Dolphins wideout Malik Washington could be set for a bigger role in his offense, with their top receiver, Tyreek Hill (knee), out for the season.
Houston Texans wide receiver Christian Kirk is also a solid pickup. So far, he hasn't done much, but he's battled through a hamstring injury, and missing practice time never helps. The Texans don't have a good passing offense, but they face the struggling Baltimore Ravens in Week 5.
Christian Kirk does a textbook job of “stacking” the defender after beating him on the slot fade.
The problem is it’s COV 1 with a safety shaded over the top so you squeezed back towards him.

The Ravens will be without quarterback Lamar Jackson (hamstring) and have numerous injuries on defense. As he builds more confidence with his quarterback, C.J. Stroud, he could have some nice games on a team with a struggling offensive line. His ability to get quick separation in the slot is valuable and could emerge as Stroud's No. 2 option in the passing attack.
