Max Fried Injury Update

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Max Fried (forearm) is eligible to come off the 15-day injured list on Friday and is a candidate for Sunday's start at Truist Park against the visiting division-rival Miami Marlins. Fried was placed on the 15-day IL on July 21, retroactive to July 18, after feeling discomfort in his left forearm during warmups prior to pitching an inning in the mid-July All-Star Game, but it sounds like he'll be able to skip a brief minor-league rehab assignment and get right back into Atlanta's rotation as soon as this weekend.

The 30-year-old All-Star left-hander took a strong 3.08 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 95:34 K:BB across 108 innings with him to the shelf, and he'll be in a great spot for fantasy purposes if he indeed returns to take the hill against the last-place Marlins on Sunday. Stay tuned for more clarity on the Braves' rotation plans for this weekend.

Tanner Bibee Injury Update

Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Tanner Bibee (shoulder) is going to have his next scheduled start pushed back a few days due to shoulder tightness, according to Zack Meisel of The Athletic. Bibee was originally scheduled to take the mound on Saturday afternoon against the Baltimore Orioles but now will cede duties to Joey Cantillo. Bibee has enjoyed a great sophomore season as he has posted a strong 3.48 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and a 31:132 BB:K ratio. In his last start, he logged six innings of two-run ball against the Tigers.

This injury does not seem significant, as the right-hander looks poised to return to the bump sometime next week. Cantillo should be faded in DFS competitions on Saturday as he will face the high-powered Baltimore Orioles and he did not fare well against the Phillies last week.

Reynaldo Lopez Injury Update

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez (forearm) is still considered day-to-day, according to manager Brian Snitker. Righty swingman Grant Holmes will start on Saturday as the Braves face the division-rival Miami Marlins at Truist Park this weekend, which was originally going to be Lopez's next turn through the rotation.

Lopez still has a chance to make an appearance this weekend, with Atlanta not having a scheduled starter listed for Sunday as well, but left-hander Max Fried (forearm) is also a candidate to come off the 15-day injured list for that start against the last-place Marlins. The 30-year-old first-time All-Star is 7-4 this season with a 2.06 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 102:37 K:BB over 104 2/3 innings, and it doesn't sound like he's at risk of heading to the IL at the moment. More clarity should become available this weekend regarding this rotation.

Lance Lynn Injury Update

The imaging done on St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Lance Lynn's (knee) inflamed right knee showed no structural damage according to manager Oli Marmol. Lynn got an injection to help with the inflammation, and the Cardinals will let it sit for a couple of days before re-evaluating him. Lynn was placed on the 15-day injured list with inflammation in his right knee on Wednesday, and Marmol said that the club is confident that rest, and not surgery, will help to ease the inflammation in the hurler's right knee.

The 37-year-old veteran right-hander's injury means that Andre Pallante will remain in the starting rotation for now, but fantasy managers should keep tabs on how St. Louis chooses to use No. 15 prospect Michael McGreevy going forward, who limited the defending-champion Rangers to one run on five hits and one walk over seven innings in his major-league debut on Wednesday.

Adbert Alzolay Injury Update

Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Adbert Alzolay (forearm) is set to undergo surgery, according to Tim Stebbins of MLB.com. Cubs skipper Craig Counsell expressed that Alzolay will seek a second opinion to determine the exact specifics of the operation. The 29-year-old has been out of action since May due to a flexor strain. Prior to the injury, Alzola struggled with a 4.67 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and a 6:13 BB:K ratio across 17 frames. The right-hander tallied 22 saves in the Northside last season but only four this season before suffering the injury.

Currently, Alzola remains without a definite timetable for his return, but after the surgery, it is hard to picture him returning to the mound this summer. Fantasy managers should expect Hector Neris to continue to see the majority of save opportunities in Chicago.

Taijuan Walker Injury Update

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Taijuan Walker (finger) made his first rehab outing on Wednesday evening with Double-A Reading. He tossed 41 pitches across two ⅔ innings. He struck out three but had some trouble allowing four hits and three runs (two earned). Walker has been sidelined since late June with a blister on his right index finger.

The 31-year-old might need one more rehab appearance to increase his pitch count before returning to the big leagues. Prior to the injury, Walker has had a disappointing season carrying a 5.60 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, and a 21:43 BB:K ratio. If Walker misses another turn in the rotation, left-handed pitcher Kolby Allard is likely to earn another start. (MiLB.com)

Tyler Mahle Injury Update

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Tyler Mahle (elbow) completed his final minor-league rehab start at Triple-A on Wednesday and is expected to make his season debut next week. Mahle is coming off of Tommy John surgery and made six rehab starts at various levels of the minors, posting a strong 2.50 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, and a 4:18 BB:K in 18 innings pitched.

The 29-year-old owns a career ERA of 4.30 at the big-league level, along with a 1.30 WHIP and 16.4% K-BB%. There are likely comparable options on your waiver wire, so there's no need to necessarily run out and pick up the righty unless you are desperate for pitching help. (RangersToday.com)
