Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 9:
Tyler Allgeier, Arizona Cardinals
Arizona Cardinals running back Tyler Allgeier had a career game in Week 8 and should be rostered in all formats moving forward. Allgeier totaled 11 carries for 147 yards and a touchdown, and added five receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown in the 33-30 comeback win over the Dallas Cowboys. After Jeremiyah Love went down with another ankle injury and third-string Bam Knight suffered a concussion, Allgeier handled the Cardinals' entire workload.
He totaled 160 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns in the second half alone and posted a career-high in receiving production in Week 8. It's unclear whether Love or Knight will miss time with their new injuries, but if they do, Allgeier should be rostered in all leagues and provides RB2 value.
DeMario Douglas, New England Patriots
New England Patriots wide receiver DeMario Douglas caught all three of his targets for 76 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 24-19 victory over the Miami Dolphins, with a 48-yard score accounting for much of his production. Douglas has now collected 17 receptions for 250 yards and four touchdowns over his last four games, already setting a career high in receiving scores. His recent production is appealing, but the volume remains uneven.
Even with A.J. Brown (ankle/knee) sidelined and Romeo Doubs (shoulder) and Mack Hollins (calf) on injured reserve, Douglas played 38 offensive snaps against Miami, fewer than Efton Chism III (52) and Kyle Williams (49).
Chism also drew five targets to Douglas' three. Hollins is eligible to return in Week 9, while Hunter Henry's foot injury adds uncertainty to New England's passing-game personnel. Douglas remains a worthwhile bench stash in 12-team PPR leagues, matching RotoBaller's recommendation for a player rostered in 37% of leagues. He offers conditional streaming appeal against the Green Bay Packers, though his limited targets make him a risky weekly starter.
Dylan Sampson, Cleveland Browns
Cleveland Browns running back Dylan Sampson is worth targeting in 12-team PPR leagues, although his fantasy appeal comes primarily from receiving opportunities rather than rushing volume. RotoBaller lists him at 17% rostered, and he has caught nine of 11 targets for 94 yards in two games since returning from injured reserve. Sunday's 27-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers highlighted the distinction between Sampson's role and Quinshon Judkins' responsibilities. Sampson played 39 offensive snaps (56%) and caught six passes for 62 yards, but received only one carry.
Judkins, meanwhile, handled 11 rushing attempts despite playing fewer snaps (27, 39%). Cleveland spent much of the afternoon trailing, which contributed to Sampson's increased involvement in the passing game. He has also rushed seven times for 52 yards since returning, providing some additional production beyond his receiving work. Sampson offers immediate PPR flex potential and valuable backfield insurance, but his workload against the New Orleans Saints in Week 9 will depend heavily on game script.
Michael Wilson, Arizona Cardinals
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson (ribs) wore a yellow non-contact jersey during Wednesday's practice and was officially listed as a limited participant, according to Bo Brack and the team's injury report. Wilson has been managing two broken ribs, which also limited his participation throughout last week's practices.
Despite the injury, he delivered one of his strongest performances of the season against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8, catching eight of 15 targets for 111 yards and the game-tying touchdown with six seconds remaining in regulation. Gardner Minshew II, who threw that touchdown pass, has since been named Arizona's starting quarterback for Sunday's matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. Wilson's substantial target volume despite the injury supports his continued fantasy relevance as a potential WR3, provided he remains available.
Ollie Gordon, Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon II remains firmly in control of the backfield, but his first game without a touchdown since Week 2 exposed a weakness in his fantasy outlook. Gordon finished with 69 yards on 19 carries and no receptions in Sunday's 24-19 loss to the New England Patriots, producing just 6.9 PPR points after four consecutive games with at least 14.5. His workload wasn't the problem, as he handled 19 of Miami's 21 running back carries and played 53 offensive snaps (82%). Jaylen Wright, meanwhile, logged only eight snaps.
Gordon's limited receiving involvement makes those scoreless performances particularly damaging. He has caught six passes for just 14 yards through seven appearances, with no receiving yards since Week 3. The Detroit Lions present another difficult matchup after holding Minnesota's running backs to 46 rushing yards last week.
Detroit has also surrendered the fourth-fewest fantasy points to the position this season. RotoBaller still ranks Gordon RB17 for Week 9, but his reliance on rushing production makes him a riskier RB2 against this defense.
