Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 3:
Geno Smith, New York Jets
New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith threw for 247 yards and a touchdown in last week's overtime loss to Green Bay, completing 27 of 41 passes without an interception. He also added 17 rushing yards on five carries. The 41 attempts were a big jump from the 24 passes he threw in the opener, and Week 3 could require another busy afternoon.
Detroit gave up 410 passing yards and three touchdowns to Tyler Shough in Week 1 before Josh Allen threw for 248 yards and three more scores last Thursday. Smith does not carry the same ceiling as Allen, but the matchup is much more inviting than the one he saw against Green Bay. RotoBaller ranks him as the QB18 for Week 3. He remains safest in Superflex leagues, though he also has some one-quarterback streaming appeal in Detroit.
C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans
Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud led the NFL in pass attempts through the first two weeks of the season, attempting a total of 93 passes against the Bills and Bengals. While he has had plenty of opportunities, he has only completed 60.2% of those passes for an average of 313.5 yards per game and two passing scores.
Stroud threw the ball 55 times last week against the Bengals but couldn't lead the offense into the end zone on any drives in the team's 20-6 defeat. Stroud and the Texans' offense felt the absence of top receiver Nico Collins (hamstring), who will miss a second straight game this week. The 0-2 Texans will be visiting the 0-2 Colts in a matchup of desperate teams trying to avoid three straight losses to start the season.
The Colts have allowed the third-most fantasy points to QBs this season, allowing 300+ yards passing to both Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. While he does have some sleeper upside, without Collins, Stroud is only the No. 25 QB in Rotoballer's rankings in Week 3. He's high-risk in this struggling offense and is not a good option in single-QB leagues, sitting on the fringes of being a starter in dual-QB leagues.
Jared Goff, Detroit Lions
Two games into the 2026 season, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has completed 67.5% of his passes for 533 yards, six touchdowns, and zero interceptions. With Detroit's defense struggling mightily to begin the year, Goff has averaged 38.5 pass attempts per game in a pair of high-scoring affairs. In Week 3, Goff and the Lions will host the New York Jets at Ford Field.
The Jets have been a very stingy pass defense so far this season, ranking second in the NFL in both total passing yards (285) and yards per pass attempt (4.7) allowed.
However, New York has had a favorable schedule so far, playing against the struggling Tennessee Titans and hosting the Green Bay Packers in a weather-impacted game in Week 2. Goff will not have to battle the elements inside the domed Ford Field. He will also be getting back two starters on the offensive line in left guard Christian Mahogany and right tackle Blake Miller, both of whom missed Detroit's Week 2 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
All in all, Goff profiles as a solid QB1 option for fantasy managers in Week 3.
Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is off to the slowest start of his NFL career as he travels to Buffalo to face the Bills in Week 3. Herbert and the Chargers were expected to be one of the league's most explosive offenses in 2026, but have the ninth-fewest passing yards and the third-fewest 20-plus-yard passes (3). The 28-year-old enters Week 3 as RotoBaller's QB16 in an intriguing matchup.
The Bills defense has allowed the 3rd-most 20-plus-yard passes (9) and the 5th-most passing yards. In addition, the Bills defense ranks near the bottom of the league in EPA and has given up too many highly valuable plays. The Chargers offense and the Bills defense both rank near the bottom of their league in their respective categories. We'll see on Sunday which side gives and can get right.
Herbert should be viewed only as a start in superflex league formats as he travels across the country in Week 3.
Drake Maye, New England Patriots
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has been incredibly underwhelming in fantasy football so far this season, but he could have an opportunity to get back on track in a potential shootout against the Jacksonville Jaguars. This game features two teams with high-ceiling offenses that could make deep playoff runs this year.
Maye has just one passing touchdown and four interceptions this season, but he has maintained a respectable 67% completion rate. The biggest obstacle for Maye has been the loss of AJ Brown (hamstring), who was placed on injured reserve after Week 1.
Still, Romeo Doubs stepped up in a big way last week, and Maye also has some very non-flashy but reliable options in DeMario Douglas, Hunter Henry, and Mack Hollins. Plus, his mobility should serve him well against a Jaguars defense that has allowed the seventh-most quarterback rushing attempts and the eighth-most quarterback rushing yards this season. Maye is still hanging on to his fringe QB1 status, ranking as RotoBaller's #13 quarterback for Week 3.
