Trey Benson Injury Update
According to Theo Mackie of AZ Central Sports, the Cardinals have begun to work Benson into team meetings, which is a great sign that he may return shortly after his four-week window passes. In addition, head coach Jonathan Gannon also noted that Benson has already completed the first step in his recovery, which is working with trainers.
Seeing that Benson has already begun attending team meetings suggests he may return from the IR shortly after his activation date. Managers should continue to pay close attention to his status, as Benson could potentially return as early as next Sunday when the Cardinals travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks.
However, when Benson was placed on the IR back in October, Gannon noted that he would have a four-to-six week window, which could potentially keep him on the shelf until Week 12.

Trey Benson Fantasy Football Outlook
While Benson may need to wait an additional week following his minimum four-week IR stint, he remains a priority stash candidate ahead of his return. While he has been sidelined, the Cardinals have relied on a committee approach between Bam Knight, Michael Carter, and Emari Demercado. While Knight has taken the lead role, he has not been overly effective on his opportunities.
During his lone game without Connor in the lineup, Benson logged 55% of the snaps and was given a near three-down role. Even when Connor was in action during the opening three games, Benson saw a prominent role and logged at least 44% of the snaps in two of these games.
Through four games, Benson has posted a stellar 5.5 YPC and has brought in 13 of his 16 targets. As a rookie in 2024, Benson posted a slightly lower 4.6 YPC.
Given his projected volume when he returns, Benson could carry high-end RB2 upside for the remainder of the second half. He is a priority waiver wire/stash candidate ahead of Week 10. Managers in need of an RB2 should also look to acquire Benson via trade, as he could still be acquired for FLEX value, given the time he has missed.
Once active, Benson could have top-15 upside at the position given his projected volume.
