The Carolina Panthers fired general manager Marty Hurney on Monday, according to a source informed of the situation. Owner David Tepper said he respected Hurney's traditional style, but he wants to shift to a modern, data-driven process the football operations office. First-year head coach Matt Rhule will play a role in the hiring of the new general manager. Hurney was also let go by the Panthers in 2012 after a decade in the GM role. He returned in 2017 as interim GM after the team fired Dave Gettleman, and he was given a full-time role in 2018. With ties to current Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera, Hurney could land in D.C.
