Houston Astros starting pitcher Ronel Blanco pitched a gem on Sunday, tossing eight shutout innings with 11 strikeouts in a 6-0 win against the Reds. He allowed two hits and walked one. While this would be the best start of most pitchers' careers, this comes in a close second to Blanco's no-hitter in his first start of 2024. This is the best he has looked this season by far, generating 16 whiffs on the night. The 31-year-old has been solid but unexciting up until this point, allowing more than three runs in a start only once but also allowing less than two runs only once. This is a reminder of Blanco's ceiling when everything is working at its best, and he's a solid mid-tier rotation option for fantasy.--Jeremy Heist - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Tony Gonsolin pitched five scoreless innings in Sunday's 8-1 win over the Diamondbacks, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out four. Although his strikeouts decreased in this outing, holding a tough Diamondbacks offense to no runs is certainly something to be happy about. Gonsolin had two easy matchups against the Marlins in each of his first two starts, so this outing proved that those weren't flukes. The 30-year-old has been nothing but solid since returning to the mound for the first time since 2023, and should be rostered in most fantasy leagues with the Dodgers' offense backing him.--Jeremy Heist - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman was perfect at the dish on Sunday, going 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored in an 8-1 victory over the Diamondbacks. The 35-year-old has shown no signs of regressing with age, as he's been one of the best hitters in the league with a .376/.437/.734 slash line. He's been an RBI machine, driving in 33 runs in 30 games with nine home runs. He'll continue to rack up the counting stats all year long in the heart of the Dodgers' lineup.--Jeremy Heist - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer kept up his torrid start to the season, going 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBI, and two runs in Sunday's 9-1 win over the Mariners. The veteran is now slashing .297/.404/.517 with five home runs and six stolen bases on the year. This is looking like a true resurgence for the former superstar, after many wrote him off after he hit .220 in 2024. It's unlikely he keeps up this pace for the whole year, but he will still be a valuable asset for fantasy as a potential 20-homer and 20-steal threat.--Jeremy Heist - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara is not having a ton of success on the mound right now. He took an 8.42 ERA into Sunday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Alcantara threw 5 2/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out eight batters. To be fair, Alcantara didn't pitch that bad as a majority of the damage was done on a three-run home run by Tim Elko. The fact Alcantara struck out eight batters did give fantasy managers some value from this outing. The right-hander will need to figure it out in order for the Marlins to get a decent return on Alcantara, assuming they wish to trade him at the deadline. The right-hander will look to get back on track against the Tampa Bay Rays during his next start.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com

Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Cam Booser was called upon to hold a two-run lead versus the Miami Marlins on Sunday. Booser was up for the task as he tossed a scoreless ninth inning to earn his first save of the season. The White Sox don't have a set closer, but it appears Booser is going to be in the mix for saves. Sadly, the White Sox don't actually win a ton of games as Sunday's win was their 12th of the season. The expectation is that Booser is going to get more chances going forward. Despite that, Booser isn't someone that needs to be rostered considering this is his first save and it's already in the middle of May. Fantasy managers should keep Booser on their radar in case he keeps getting chances.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com

Boston Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu broke out of his mini slump during Sunday's game against the Kansas City Royals. Abreu came into this game 0-for-13 over the last three games, but he turned it around at the plate during this game. He went 3-for-4 in this game, including a solo home run off right-hander Seth Lugo in the fourth inning. This marked Abreu's 10th home run of the season as his outstanding 2025 season continues. Abreu is tied for third in the American League in homers and has 26 RBI after Sunday's game.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez was able to earn his first win of the season during Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres. Marquez took an 0-6 record with a 9.90 ERA into Sunday's contest against a tough Padres lineup. Despite that, Marquez was sharp as he tossed seven strong innings, allowing one earned run on three hits, while striking out two batters in the win. It has a positive outing from Marquez who has been awful throughout most of his starts. He'll hope to carry this momentum into his next start against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Fantasy managers can leave Marquez on the waiver wire until he proves he can do it again.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com

Colorado Rockies outfielder Hunter Goodman put together an impressive series against the San Diego Padres. He came into Sunday's game with four hits, two doubles, and one RBI through the first two games of the series. On Sunday, Goodman nearly hit for the cycle as he posted an excellent game. He went 3-for-5 with a double, triple, home run, and knocked in five runs in the victory. Goodman extended his hitting streak to 12 games with this three-hit performance. The expectation is that Goodman is going to be a popular waiver wire addition considering his recent play.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk (head) was removed early from Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Kirk was taken out following getting hit in the head on a backswing. He played another full inning before being removed from the contest. Kirk went 1-for-2 with a double before being taken out of the game. He was replaced by Tyler Heineman behind the plate for the rest of the contest. The assumption is that Kirk will go through concussion protocol. It's unclear if he'll miss any time due to this injury. If he does, Heineman figures to see additional time behind the plate. Fantasy managers will need to check back for another update on Kirk.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Hazel Mae

The Colorado Rockies have relieved manager Bud Black of his duties following Sunday's win over the San Diego Padres. It was just a matter of time before Black was going to get fired. It's really not his fault, but someone needs to be held responsible for the league-worst 7-33 record to start the season. The Rockies are also letting go of bench coach Mike Redmond. Now, third base coach Warren Schaeffer will take over as the interim manager for the rest of the 2025 season. Clint Hurdle takes over as the interim bench coach, but neither of these moves will probably make much of a difference. The Rockies are trending towards being the worst team in history, so something needed to change. Black nor Redmond are truly to blame for the horrible start, but sadly someone needs to get fired when you play this poorly.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Jeff Passan

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh is out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. It's a bit odd to see Marsh getting the day off against a right-handed starting pitcher. However, Marsh did recently return from the injured list, so possibly the Phillies are just being cautious. In his place, Johan Rojas will cover center field and bat ninth versus right-hander Luis L. Ortiz on Sunday. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly, but Marsh hasn't done enough to warrant rostering in most formats.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com

Houston Astros starting pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. was reportedly receiving threats following a horrendous outing during Saturday's game. The right-hander received threats to himself and his family after McCullers struggled on Saturday. McCullers allowed seven runs and was only able to record one out before being taken out of the game. Afterwards, the Astros needed to notify the police department and Major League Baseball about the threats towards McCullers. The MLB is currently looking into the threats, but haven't said much more about the situation. There should be zero tolerance for this in baseball, so hopefully the MLB is able to do something about the situation.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: New York Times

Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. is reportedly drawing interest from around the league. The New York Mets are taking a look at Robert as a possible mid-season addition to their roster. The slash line hasn't been pretty, but Robert does lead the American League with 15 steals this season. He figures to be one of the bigger bats available at this year's trade deadline. The White Sox are reportedly interested in Mets' pitching prospect Blade Tidwell. He recently made his MLB debut and could be someone that could be an immediate impact arm in Chicago. It remains to be seen if the two sides will be able to come up with a deal.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: USA Today

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Lane Thomas (wrist) appears to be making good progress in his recovery from a bone bruise in his right wrist. Thomas was ramped up his baseball activities and is currently pain-free, according to manager Stephen Vogt. He is working on getting his strength back, but Thomas is hopeful to begin a rehab assignment soon. The Guardians are likely to continue using a committee approach in center field until Thomas returns. The hope is that Thomas can get back on the field in the middle or late May.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com
