Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Tanner Scott (elbow) could be ready to face live hitters next week, reports Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register. No official timetable has been revealed for the lefty, although his most recent step in recovery was throwing a bullpen session last week. He has been out since July 21 with elbow inflammation, and it looks like late August would be a best-case scenario for his return at this point. The 31-year-old will presumably step back into the mix for saves in Los Angeles, where he will hope to add to his current tally of 19 saves.--Jeremy HeistSource: Bill Plunkett

Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas (oblique) took batting practice on Monday, reports Scott Merkin of MLB.com. He reportedly felt very good after the fact and is hopeful to return to the roster without a rehab assignment. The 25-year-old has been on the 10-day injured list since August 1 with an oblique strain, so it looks like he could return with missing almost the minimum amount of time. The youngster has been starting to find himself at the plate and establish himself at the big league level with everyday playing time in Chicago, tallying 13 home runs, 44 RBI, and 57 runs in 106 games.--Jeremy HeistSource: Scott Merkin

Athletics outfielder Denzel Clarke (hip) is close to returning from the injured list, reports Jessica Kleinschmidt of Baseball America. General manager David Forst stated that he "is close to going out and playing", although he didn't clarify if a rehab assignment would be needed. Clarke has been out since July 20 with a right adductor strain. While he hit for just a .230 batting average and .274 on-base percentage, the 25-year-old did impress with three home runs, six stolen bases, and several defensive gems in 47 games so far in 2025. His defense alone should get him back into the lineup in center field once he is healthy.--Jeremy HeistSource: Jessica Kleinschmidt

The Tennessee Titans have signed free-agent quarterback Trevor Siemian and waived fellow signal-caller Tim Boyle. Siemian spent time with the Titans in 2020 and 2024, but he has never appeared in a regular-season game with the team. The 33-year-old debuted with the Denver Broncos in 2015 and has since played in 40 games (33 starts), completed 58.5% of passes, and thrown 44 touchdowns against 32 interceptions. Siemian will now replace Boyle as the Titans' third quarterback behind rookie starter Cam Ward and veteran backup Brandon Allen. Boyle completed just 4-of-13 passes for 24 yards and two interceptions in the Titans' 29-7 preseason-opening loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday. Allen didn't shine either, going 6-for-12 for 62 yards and a pick. He'll have an opportunity to improve when the Titans face the Atlanta Falcons in their second preseason game on Friday. It's unclear if Siemian will see any action.--Connor ByrneSource: Jim Wyatt

Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Shane McClanahan (triceps) had surgery on his left triceps on Monday to try and address a lingering nerve issue in his arm, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. McClanahan will now officially miss the rest of the season. "(The doctor) is not sitting there saying 'he's fixed.' That's not the case. It's, 'This is one step, and we'll see how this goes.' And hopefully we get good results. And if we don't, then let doctors decide what else is needed, if anything," manager Kevin Cash said. The 28-year-old southpaw made three minor-league rehab starts before being shut down, and what Cash had to say isn't very encouraging going into the offseason and next year. McClanahan, the former 31st overall pick in 2018 out of South Florida has not pitched in the big leagues since 2023 due to injuries, so it's fair to wonder if he can recapture his All-Star form in 2026.--Keith HernandezSource: Tampa Bay Times - Marc Topkin

The San Francisco 49ers have placed running back Ameer Abdullah (ribs) on season-ending Injured Reserve, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Abdullah, who just joined the 49ers as a free agent on July 31, suffered a rib injury in a preseason-opening 30-9 loss to the Denver Broncos this past Saturday. While the 32-year-old was unlikely to make much of an impact this season (if any), it's another hit to San Francisco's depth in the backfield. The team is already set to go multiple weeks without injured Christian McCaffrey backups Isaac Guerendo (shoulder) and Jordan James (finger). The 49ers brought back Jeff Wilson Jr. in free agency on Sunday in the wake of Abdullah's injury to provide some much-needed healthy depth behind McCaffrey.--Connor ByrneSource: Adam Schefter

Cleveland Browns running back Pierre Strong Jr. (undisclosed) returned to practice as a limited participant on Monday. Strong had been down with an undisclosed injury. After appearing in 14 games and rushing for 108 yards on 26 carries last year, Strong is competing for a backup role this summer. He's currently third on the Browns' unofficial depth chart behind Jerome Ford and rookie fourth-round pick Dylan Sampson. The team also has rookie second-rounder Quinshon Judkins, who remains without a contract as he deals with an ongoing misdemeanor battery/domestic violence case. The longer Judkins is away, the more opportunities Strong should receive. Strong didn't play in the Browns' 30-10 preseason-opening win in Carolina last week, and it's unclear if he'll suit up against the Philadelphia Eagles this Saturday.--Connor ByrneSource: Kelsey Russo - ClevelandBrowns.com

MLB.com's Jason Beck writes that Detroit Tigers shortstop Javier Baez is expected to see some playing time in center field along with Wenceel Perez with outfielder Matt Vierling (oblique) on the 10-day injured list. The Tigers called up Trey Sweeney from Triple-A Toledo for more infield depth up the middle. Baez indeed got the start in center in Monday's series opener against the division-rival Chicago White Sox and hit ninth in the batting order, while Zach McKinstry got the start at the 6. The 32-year-old Baez will probably move back to shortstop once Parker Meadows (quadriceps) comes back from the injured list. Baez has had an unexpected resurgent season in 2025 for the Tigers, making the All-Star team for the third time in his career. He's been versatile on defense, too, and has already played center field 37 times this year.--Keith HernandezSource: MLB.com - Jason Beck

Baltimore Ravens running back Keaton Mitchell (undisclosed) once again did not practice on Monday, according to Brian Wacker of the Baltimore Sun. Mitchell, who's dealing with an undisclosed injury, hasn't practiced since an impressive preseason-opening performance against the Indianapolis Colts last Thursday. The 23-year-old carried the ball nine times for a team-high 68 yards and a touchdown in the Ravens' 24-16 win. Mitchell missed all but five games last season while recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in 2023, his rookie campaign. If he's healthy this year, Mitchell will vie for touches behind superstar workhorse Derrick Henry. The Ravens are set to play their next preseason game on Saturday in Dallas, but it's unclear if Mitchell will be available to follow up on his productive showing from last week.--Connor ByrneSource: Brian Wacker - Baltimore Sun

Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter (back) took live batting practice on Monday and could start a minor-league rehab assignment as early as Tuesday, according to MLB.com's Kennedi Landry. Barring a setback with his back, it's possible that Carter could rejoin the big-league team this weekend or early next week. When he returns, the 22-year-old left-handed hitter should at least be on the strong side of a platoon in center field against right-handed pitchers, moving Wyatt Langford back to left field on a daily basis. Carter is a former second-round pick and has the ability to make noise in all fantasy categories, but he's had a tough time staying on the field for long periods of time due to injuries. He has played in a career-high 55 games in 2025 and is hitting .238 (40-for-168) with four home runs, 21 RBI, 12 steals and 27 runs scored in 189 trips to the plate.--Keith HernandezSource: MLB.com - Kennedi Landry

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (elbow) had successful right-elbow debridement surgery to remove a bone spur on Monday with Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas, according to Danielle Allentuck of the Baltimore Banner. Rodriguez is done for the rest of the 2025 season, but the hope is that he'll be ready to go for spring training next year. The 25-year-old will end up not pitching at all for the Orioles this season, but he's hoping to resume throwing sooner than later in order to have a pretty normal offseason heading into 2026. Rodriguez also dealt with a serious lat/shoulder injury in 2024 and basically missed half the season. The former top prospect has a 25.7% strikeout rate in his two big-league seasons of 43 starts and has teased high-end starting pitcher talent, but fantasy managers will be very hesitant due to mounting injury concerns.--Keith HernandezSource: Baltimore Banner - Danielle Allentuck

Minnesota Twins outfielder Matt Wallner (personal) is expected to rejoin the team in the Bronx on Tuesday for their game against the New York Yankees after being away since Saturday for the birth of his child. Wallner should be a lineup regular for the Twins after they traded away plenty of players at the July 31 deadline. The 27-year-old is hitting a career-low .218 (51-for-234) with 77 strikeouts and 34 walks, but he's also recorded a career-high 16 home runs, 27 RBI and 34 runs scored in 74 games. Wallner's .233 expected batting average means he could still have a little run in him this year, but he's also in just the eighth percentile in strikeout rate. Fantasy managers are simply chasing the former first-rounder's power from the left side in the middle of Minnesota's lineup.--Keith HernandezSource: The Athletic - Dan Hayes

Boston Red Sox catcher Carlos Narvaez (knee) is behind the plate and is batting ninth in Monday's series opener against the hosting Houston Astros and right-hander Cristian Javier at Daikin Park. Narvaez will return to action for the first time since last Tuesday due to a sore left knee. As long as the 26-year-old's knee issues don't crop up again, he's expected to be the primary backstop for the Red Sox the rest of the way. The Venezuelan is in his first year in Beantown and only his second in the big leagues and is hitting .248/.319/.409 with a .729 OPS, nine home runs, 33 RBI and 41 runs scored in 86 games played. Narvaez only played six games with the New York Yankees in 2024, so this is essentially his rookie season. Since the All-Star break, Narvaez has gone 5-for-45 (.111) with a homer, two RBI and 14 strikeouts in 13 games played.--Keith HernandezSource: MLB.com

Boston Red Sox rookie infielder Marcelo Mayer (wrist) started baseball activities on Monday and is playing catch, according to Christopher Smith of MassLive. Mayer has been slow to recover from a right-wrist sprain that has kept him out since July 24, but the 22-year-old appears to be turning a corner. Still, it could be another week or two before he can rejoin the major-league roster, as the Red Sox will likely send him on a short minor-league rehab assignment first. The former fourth overall pick in 2021 made his big-league debut in 2025 and has hit .228/.272/.402 with four home runs, 10 RBI and 20 runs scored in 44 games. Mayer was previously one of Boston's top prospects and is an intresting stash in dynasty/keeper fantasy leagues, but there's no guarantee he'll see regular playing time in the final month of the season when he returns.--Keith HernandezSource: MassLive.com - Christopher Smith

The Athletics reinstated left-hander Brady Basso (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list on Monday and then optioned him to Triple-A Las Vegas, according to the team. The A's also transferred catcher Austin Wynns (abdomen) to the 60-day IL, which means he won't return this season. The 27-year-old southpaw has yet to pitch in the big leagues this season after he was placed on the IL before the start of the year with a left-shoulder strain. Basso had a setback along the way and will now go back to the minors to give himself a chance to pitch for the A's down the stretch. The former 16th-round pick in 2019 out of Oklahoma State made his major-league debut in 2024 and went 1-1 with a 4.03 ERA (3.88 FIP) and 1.25 WHIP with a 19:5 K:BB in seven outings (four starts). Basso is a command artist with limited long-term fantasy value.--Keith HernandezSource: A's Communications

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Michael Conforto (knee) is starting in left field and batting seventh in Monday's series opener against the hosting Los Angeles Angels and right-hander Jose Soriano. Conforto was hit by a pitch on his right knee in Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays and was given a day off in Sunday's series finale as a result. The 32-year-old left-handed hitter is back in there on Monday, though, as he look to find the form he had at the plate in July. Conforto had an .827 OPS in July but has only three hits in 24 at-bats with an RBI and six strikeouts in nine games in August. He just has not been a consistent contributor for the first-place Dodgers in his first year in L.A., as he enters Monday's action hitting under .200 with nine home runs, 25 RBI and 41 runs scored in 103 games on the season.--Keith HernandezSource: MLB.com

Kansas City Royals first baseman Jac Caglianone (hamstring) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday. Caglianone was cleared for baseball activities last week, now he's ready to take the next step. The rookie slugger has been sidelined since late July due to a hamstring strain. The expectation is that he'll need a handful of games to get back into the swing of things. He should be ready to rejoin the Royals lineup by late August. Fantasy managers should check back for another update on his status later in the week.--Andy WebbSource: Anne Rogers

San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Jordan Watkins (ankle) suffered a high-ankle sprain and will miss a month, according to Vic Tafur of The Athletic. Watkins was injured in Saturday's 30-9 loss to the Denver Broncos in the preseason opener. Before getting hurt, he caught three of his six targets for 56 yards. The 23-year-old was a fourth-round pick back in April but might not be ready for the start of the 2025 regular season in early September. Watkins wasn't going to be a starter on offense in his rookie season, but there is certainly opportunity in a banged-up Niners receivers room with Brandon Aiyuk (knee) potentially not making his season debut until Week 6. With Jauan Jennings and Jacob Cowing also dealing with injuries in training camp, Demarcus Robinson has a big opportunity to impress the coaching staff.--Keith HernandezSource: The Athletic - Vic Tafur

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Cole Ragans (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday. This will be the first time that Ragans has thrown since landing on the injured list in early June. The expectation is that Ragans will throw a few bullpen sessions before going on a rehab assignment. The southpaw has been sidelined for quite a while, so he'll need time to build back up his pitch count and stamina. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect to see Ragans back on the mound for the Royals until September.--Andy WebbSource: Anne Rogers

New York Yankees infielder Oswaldo Cabrera (ankle) is considered a long shot to return to the field this season. There is a small window for Cabrera to return, but it remains unlikely at this point. Cabrera has been sidelined since having surgery in mid-May to repair a fractured ankle. The good news is, Cabrera has been walking around without the help of a boot or scooter. However, Cabrera hasn't advanced to any baseball activities yet. The Yankees aren't going to rush anything, so fantasy managers shouldn't count on getting anything from Cabrera for the rest of the season.--Andy WebbSource: Gary Phillips

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge (elbow) is unlikely to play in the outfield during their series against the Minnesota Twins, according to manager Aaron Boone. Over the weekend, the Yankees said Judge should be back in the outfield soon. It won't be this early, but it sounds like the veteran slugger is almost there. That being said, Judge will be limited to designated hitter duties during this series. He recently returned from a flexor strain, so the Yankees don't want to push him into the outfield yet. Giancarlo Stanton will continue seeing time in right field until Judge is ready to go back out there.--Andy WebbSource: Gary Phillips

Cleveland Browns rookie fifth-round quarterback Shedeur Sanders is listed as the QB4 on the team's second unofficial depth chart of the preseason, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Veteran Joe Flacco is listed as the starter, with Kenny Pickett (hamstring) behind him and rookie Dillon Gabriel as the QB3. While Sanders was not perfect by any means in the preseason opener last Friday night against the Carolina Panthers, he did well for himself by going 14-for-23 for 138 yards and two touchdowns while adding 19 rushing yards on four carries. The 23-year-old has gotten more opportunities in training camp with both Pickett and Gabriel missing time with hamstring injuries, but his strong performance over the weekend hasn't really moved the needle in terms of Sanders moving up the QB depth chart in Cleveland. He's going to need to show more.--Keith HernandezSource: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Sepp Straka has withdrawn from the BMW Championship due to a private family matter. Straka finished tied for 17th at last week's FedEx St. Jude Championship and is currently still set to compete at the Tour Championship in two weeks. So far this season, Straka has two wins, 11 top-25 finishes and missed the cut four times 21 starts. Over the past 12 months, Straka ranks in the 95th percentile in greens in regulation percentage on approach shots from over 200 yards in the fairway.--Ian Christenson - RotoBallerSource: Reuters

Houston Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez (hand) was able to take live batting practice at the team's spring training complex in Florida over the weekend. This is a positive step forward as Alvarez was limited to hitting in the batting cage before this. The expectation is that Alvarez will likely need a few more batting practice sessions before he heads out on a minor league rehab assignment. This is a step in the right direction, but there is still more work to do. There currently isn't a timetable for Alvarez to return to the Astros lineup. He has been out since early May due to a fractured hand. At this point, Alvarez probably won't be able to contribute in Houston until September.--Andy WebbSource: Julia Morales

Maverick McNealy finished tied for 28th at last week's FedEx St. Jude Championship and will now focus on preparing for this week's BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland. McNealy has nine top-25 finishes and missed the cut four times in 22 starts this season. Over the past 12 months, McNealy ranks in the 69th percentile in greens in regulation percentage on approach shots from over 200 yards in the fairway. This is worth pointing out because Caves Valley plays over 7,600 yards in distance.--Ian Christenson - RotoBallerSource: Data Golf

Scottie Scheffler finished tied for third at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week and will now focus on preparing for this week's BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland. So far this season, Scheffler has four wins, 13 top-25 finishes and no missed cut in 17 starts. Over the past 12 months, Scheffler ranks in the 82nd percentile in greens in regulation percentage on approach shots from over 200 yards in the fairway. This is significant because Caves Valley is over 7,600 yards in length.--Ian Christenson - RotoBallerSource: Data Golf

Over the past 12 months, Morikawa ranks in the 54th percentile in greens in regulation percentage on approach shots from over 200 yards in the fairway. This is important because Caves Valley plays over 7,600 yards.--Ian Christenson - RotoBallerSource: Data Golf

Over the past 12 months, McIlroy ranks in the 78th percentile in greens in regulation percentage on approach shots from over 200 yards in the fairway.
