The Boston Red Sox recalled middle infielder David Hamilton from Triple-A Worcester before Thursday's game against the New York Yankees. To clear roster space for Hamilton, the Red Sox designated corner infielder read more...

The Atlanta Braves placed shortstop Luke Williams (oblique) on the injured list on Thursday with a strained left oblique. The severity of the injury is not yet known. Williams has not had a plate appearance since August 9. The 29-year-old was slashing .103/.156/.172 with two extra-base hits, five RBI, five runs scored, and four stolen bases in 32 plate appearances this season. More notably, Williams was used by the Braves as a mop-up position player/pitcher out of the bullpen, pitching in six games. Over those six games, he threw six innings, had a 3.00 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and four strikeouts.--Dr. Reuven GuySource: Atlanta Braves

The San Francisco Giants transferred left-hander Erik Miller (elbow) to the 60-day injured list on Thursday. Miller, who has been sidelined with a left elbow strain, suffered a setback on his rehab assignment last week. The 27-year-old is eligible to come off the injured list in September. However, he will not be throwing for the next few weeks, with his season likely being over. Miller did pitch well over 36 outings this year from the bullpen, posting a (4-1) record with a 1.50 ERA and 1.47 WHIP, and a strand rate of 89.4%--Dr. Reuven GuySource: San Francisco Giants

The Boston Red Sox announced Wednesday that rookie infielder Marcelo Mayer (wrist) underwent a successful right-wrist arthroscopy. Dr. Matthew Leibman performed the procedure. The 22-year-old initially sprained his wrist in late July. He had a subsequent cortisone shot, tried extended rest, and still ended up needing surgery anyway. Mayer has now had season-ending injuries in each of the last three years. The Red Sox's top prospect had a shoulder injury in 2023 and a back injury in 2024. Recovery time for the surgery is three months, and he should be healthy heading into spring training. When healthy this year, Mayer slashed .228/.272/.402 and with a 30.1% strikeout rate in 136 plate appearances.--Dr. Reuven GuySource: Masslive.com

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that left-hander Ryan Yarbrough (oblique) will make at least one more rehab start before being activated from the injured list. The southpaw is rehabbing from a strained right oblique and has already made two rehab appearances while getting his pitch count up to 50. When he returns, Yarbrough may end up in a long relief role as Luis Gil took his rotation spot when he was out. Yarbrough has pitched in 16 games this year, starting eight of them, and has racked up 49 strikeouts in 55 innings with an ERA of 3.90 and a WHIP of 1.17.--Dr. Reuven GuySource: Max Goodman

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Stuart Fairchild (oblique) was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Thursday. Fairchild has been on the IL since July 23 with a strained right oblique. The 29-year-old has not yet resumed baseball activities since then and would be eligible to return from the IL the last week of the season. Fairchild has been limited to only 28 games this year due to the injury. When he was on the field, he slashed .273/.333/.606 with two stolen bases, both of which were in one game.--Dr. Reuven GuySource: Ryan Bass

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Kirby Yates (back) is expected to be activated from the injured list on Saturday. He has been out since the end of July with a lower back issue and is now on a rehab assignment. The 38-year-old is expected to make one more rehab appearance prior to his activation. With Tanner Scott (elbow) also on the way back, Yates may land in only a setup role when he returns. The veteran right-hander has three saves this year in 39 appearances, along with 13 holds, and a K/9 of 12.64 this year. He may vulture some saves down the stretch for the Dodgers and is mainly an option in leagues that reward saves and holds.--Dr. Reuven GuySource: Kirsten Watson

Veteran free-agent reliever Craig Kimbrel is signing an undisclosed deal with the Houston Astros on Thursday and will be joining the major-league roster, a source tells Jeff Passan of ESPN. The Texas Rangers granted Kimbrel his release on Thursday, and it didn't take long for the 37-year-old veteran to find a new team to pitch for down the stretch in 2025. He has only thrown one innning in the big leagues this year with the Atlanta Braves, and there's no guarantee he'll stick around with the Astros through the end of the season. But with left-handed closer Josh Hader (shoulder) expected to miss the the rest of the regular season, the Astros are turning to a veteran with 440 career saves for some depth for their bullpen. At best, Kimbrel might be a late-inning arm for Houston, and Bryan Abreu remains the best bet for saves the rest of the way.--Keith HernandezSource: ESPN.com - Jeff Passan

With San Francisco Giants right-hander Landen Roupp (knee) headed to the 15-day injured list with a knee sprain, MLB.com's Justice delos Santos reports that rookie right-hander Carson Whisenhunt will be recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to start in Friday's series opener against the first-place Milwaukee Brewers. Whisenhunt, the team's No. 7 prospect per MLB Pipeline, made his major-league debut earlier in 2025 and struggled in three starts against the Pirates, Mets and Nationals, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 13 hits (five homers) while walking seven and striking out 12 over 14 1/3 innings. The 24-year-old is going to need to throw more strikes and hit better spots in his return to the majors, but he could stick around for the rest of the year in San Fran's rotation if Roupp can't make it back. We'd suggest avoiding Whisenhunt as a fantasy streamer against Milwaukee in his return to MLB.--Keith HernandezSource: MLB.com - Justice delos Santos

The Triple-A Worcester Red Sox placed infielder Vaughn Grissom (foot) and pitcher Cooper Criswell (elbow) on the seven-day minor-league injured list on Wednesday, according to Tommy Cassell. Grissom is dealing with right-foot inflammation, while Criswell is sidelined with right-elbow inflammation. Grissom, 24, has yet to play in the big leagues with the Red Sox this year after hitting a disappointing .190/.246/.219 with no homers, six RBI and two steals in 31 games in 2024 in Beantown. He was hitting a solid .270/.342/.441 for Worcester with 13 homers, 48 RBI, 69 runs and nine steals in 418 plate appearances before his injury and could be an option for infield depth in Boston next month if he's healthy. Criswell made seven appearances (one start) for the BoSox earlier this year and had a 3.57 ERA, 1.59 WHIPO and 9:5 K:BB in only 17 2/3 frames.--Keith HernandezSource: Tommy Cassell

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Spencer Strider will have his spot in the rotation skipped. That means, Strider won't make his scheduled start against the New York Mets this weekend. This doesn't come as a shock given how horrible Strider has been lately. He was crushed for seven earned runs on 10 hits during his most recent start against the Chicago White Sox. Strider could use some time off after getting shelled for five runs or more in each of his last three starts. It's unclear when Strider is going to make his next appearance on the mound. The assumption is that he'll start early next week. In the meantime, Joey Wentz, Cal Quantrill, and Bryce Elder will take the mound versus the Mets this weekend.--Andy WebbSource: Mark Bowman

Houston Astros outfielder Taylor Trammell (neck, concussion) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Thursday. Trammell will head to the shelf due to a cervical muscle strain that he suffered during Wednesday's contest. It's also worth noting that Trammell remains in the concussion protocol as well. He's currently with the team for their series in Baltimore while he recovers from these issues. In the meantime, Brice Matthews has been recalled to take over the spot on the active roster. Neither player brings enough upside with the bat to warrant rostering in fantasy formats.--Andy WebbSource: Chandler Rome

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg (ankle) remained out of the starting lineup ahead of Thursday's game against the Houston Astros. Westburg hasn't been able to play since exiting early during Monday's game against the Boston Red Sox. Currently, Westburg is considered day-to-day with right ankle discomfort. The organization is hopeful that Westburg can avoid a stint on the injured list. It wouldn't be shocking to see Westburg miss a handful of games due to this issue. Jeremiah Jackson is covering the hot corner on Thursday. He'll likely see increased playing time over there until Westburg is ready to play again.--Andy WebbSource: Jacob Calvin Meyer
