Luke Keaschall to Miss Rest of Season With Thumb Injury
Luke Keaschall (thumb) will miss the rest of the season with a sprained left thumb. The 23-year-old will visit a specialist next week to determine whether he'll require surgery. A second-round pick in 2023, Keaschall rose quickly through the Twins' system and debuted with the club on April 18. Keaschall's career got off to a rough start, though, as he suffered a broken bone in his right arm in his seventh game and didn't return until the first week of August. Injuries aside, Keaschall's performance was one of the few positives to take from an awful season for the Twins. In 49 games and 207 plate appearances, he slashed an outstanding .302/.382/.445 with four homers, 28 RBI, 25 runs scored, and 14 stolen bases.

Ramon Laureano Fractures Finger, Out Through First Round of Playoffs
Ramon Laureano (finger) fractured his right index finger and will be out through at least the first round of the playoffs, manager Mike Shildt told reporters. Laureano suffered the injury during a 3-1 defeat against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday, forcing him to exit after the second inning. The 31-year-old is a significant loss for the Padres heading into the playoffs, having hit .269/.323/.489 with nine homers, 30 RBI, 27 runs scored, and three stolen bases in 198 plate appearances since they acquired him from the Baltimore Orioles on July 31. In a combined 488 trips to the plate between the two teams, Laureano slashed a strong .281/.342/.512 with 24 HRs, 76 RBI, 72 runs, and seven steals. As long as Laureano is out, Gavin Sheets should get the majority of playing time in left field for the Padres.

Daniel Palencia Activated From 15-Day Injured List
Daniel Palencia (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list and optioned left-hander Jordan Wicks to their Arizona complex. Palencia is returning after missing a little over two weeks with a strained right shoulder. The 25-year-old will look to rebound after he was blown up for five earned runs while failing to record an out in his most recent appearance on Sept. 7. Despite that catastrophic outing, he still owns a 3.00 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP, 59:16 K:BB, and 22 saves over 51 innings. It's unclear if the Cubs will ease Palencia back in or immediately reinstall him as their closer as the playoffs approach. Andrew Kittredge and Brad Keller combined for five saves while Palencia was on the IL.

Mike Trout Sitting on Wednesday
Mike Trout is getting the night off versus the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday. Yoan Moncada will DH and hit third against right-hander Stephen Kolek, while Luis Rengifo will take over at the hot corner and bat fifth. Trout slugged the 400th home run of his illustrious career last Saturday, but the 34-year-old has otherwise struggled since the All-Star break. He has gone deep just five times and posted a pedestrian .686 OPS in 56 games during the second half. Thanks to a more productive first few months of the season, Trout has hit 227/.356/.412 with 22 homers, 59 RBI, 68 runs scored, and two stolen bases in 543 trips to the plate.

Jeremy Pena Out Again on Wednesday
Jeremy Pena (oblique) is out of the lineup on Wednesday against Athletics right-hander Luis Severino. This will be the third straight game off for Pena, who is day-to-day with soreness in his left oblique. It's unfortunate timing for Houston, which has lost four in a row and fallen to one game out of a wild-card spot as the regular season nears an end. Pena, one of the Astros' most valuable players, has slashed an excellent .304/.363/.477 with 17 homers, 62 RBI, 68 runs scored, and 20 stolen bases in 543 plate appearances this season. Carlos Correa will fill in for Pena at short and hit third on Wednesday, while Ramon Urias will play third base and bat ninth.

Wyatt Langford Placed on 10-Day Injured List
Wyatt Langford (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday. This comes a day after Langford was removed after aggravating his left oblique issue. The Rangers have decided to shut him down for the rest of the season. They aren't playing for anything at this point, so they might as well let him rest. Langford will finish with a .241/.344/.431 slash line with 22 home runs, 62 RBI, and 22 steals in 134 games. In a corresponding move, outfielder Billy McKinney has been recalled to take Langford's spot on the active roster.

Jose Siri Gets Designated for Assignment
Jose Siri has been designated for assignment by the organization on Wednesday. Siri missed a majority of the season due to injury, but recently returned to the lineup. Since his return, Siri has gone 1-for-12 at the plate with nine strikeouts. They've decided to move on from the veteran outfielder, which seems odd given Siri only played in 16 games. In a corresponding move, outfielder Tyrone Taylor (hamstring) has been activated from the injured list. That means, Taylor will basically take over the role Siri was playing on the team. He figures to split up time with Cedric Mullins down the stretch of the season.

Shane Bieber Has Start Pushed Back to Friday
Shane Bieber will have his scheduled start pushed back until Friday versus the Tampa Bay Rays. The team hasn't named a starter for Thursday's game, but Jose Berrios seems like the most obvious candidate. Also, rookie Trey Yesavage will take the ball for Saturday's contest. The move to push Bieber back is for rest purposes, so fantasy managers don't need to worry about an injury. Bieber has been sharp since making his season debut in late August. The right-hander has given up three earned runs or less in every start but one this season.

Luke Keaschall Absent on Wednesday
Luke Keaschall (thumb) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Texas Rangers. This doesn't come as a shock after Keaschall was removed from Tuesday's game. Keaschall suffered a left thumb injury while stealing second base. For now, Keaschall should be considered day-to-day, but this injury could end his season. The rookie infielder has been solid at the plate during his 200-plus plate appearances in the big leagues. He's slashing .302/.382/.445 with four home runs, 28 RBI, and 14 steals in 49 games. Fantasy managers should check back on Thursday for another update on his status.

Jackson Holliday Scratched on Wednesday With Knee Injury
Jackson Holliday (knee) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Holliday was originally slated to play, but pulled out due to a minor knee issue. It doesn't sound like a serious issue, but the O's aren't going to take any chances. For now, fantasy managers should consider Holliday as day-to-day. In the meantime, Jordan Westburg will slide over to second base while Jeremiah Jackson takes over the third base on Wednesday. Fantasy managers should check back on Thursday for another update.

Cade Horton to Undergo MRI on his Back
Cade Horton (back) undergo an MRI exam "to see what we're dealing with," according to manager Craig Counsell. "We're optimistic, but we want to make sure we know what we're dealing with or if we're dealing with anything," Counsell said. The Cubs pulled Horton early from his outing on Tuesday against the New York Mets as a precaution after his back tightened up. It doesn't sound like the 24-year-old's injury is very serious, but the Cubs want to make sure with the playoffs starting next week. Depending on what they find, the impressive rookie might not be able to pitch in the wild-card series. If his back injury turns out to be nothing, it's possible Horton could start in Game 1 of the wild-card series next Tuesday. The former first-rounder has been great in his first 23 outings (22 starts), going 11-4 with a 2.67 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 97 strikeouts in 118 innings pitched.

Kyle Tucker Trending Toward Returning This Weekend
Kyle Tucker (calf) is "trending" toward returning for the final series of the regular season this weekend against the division-rival St. Louis Cardinals, according to 670 The Score. Tucker has recovered slowly from a left-calf strain that has kept him out of action since early September, but he's been doing baseball activities this week and has rejoined the major-league squad at Wrigley Field. The Cubs definitely want to get the 28-year-old some at-bats this weekend before the playoffs start early next week. The former first-rounder has hit .270/.381/.472 with an .854 OPS, 22 home runs, 73 RBI, 89 runs scored, and 25 stolen bases in 489 at-bats in his first year with the Cubbies, and they are going to need him performing the way he can for them to make a deep run in October.

Anthony Santander Returning on Wednesday
Anthony Santander (shoulder) was activated from the injured list on Tuesday and is making his long-awaited return to the starting lineup on Wednesday against the division-rival Boston Red Sox. Santander will serve as the DH and will bat fifth against Red Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet. It will be the 30-year-old's first game with Toronto since May 29 due to a left-shoulder injury. The Jays want to get Santander some at-bats in the final week of the regular season before the playoffs start. Their big offseason acquisition was not swinging the bat well before his injury, slashing .179/.273/.304 with six home runs, 18 RBI, and 14 runs scored. The switch-hitting Venezuelan hit 44 homers and drove in 102 last year with the Orioles, though, so if he can get going, it would be a huge boost to Toronto's offense in the postseason. He's gone hitless in eight career at-bats against Crochet.

Javier Baez Remains Out Against Cleveland
Javier Baez (neck) is out of the starting lineup again on Wednesday in another crucial game against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field. Trey Sweeney will start at shortstop and will bat out of the nine-hole against Guardians right-hander Tanner Bibee. Baez was scratched from Tuesday's lineup with neck stiffness and will miss his second straight game. Consider the 32-year-old day-to-day for now. Sweeney will be a poor choice as a DFS sleeper out of the nine-hole on Wednesday. The former first-rounder is hitting just .195 (57-for-292) this year with six home runs, 32 RBI, 36 runs scored, and three stolen bases. He's also hitless in three career at-bats against Bibee. With Colt Keith (rib cage) on the injured list, the Tigers are thin on the left side of their infield as they look to snap out of their current funk.

Johnathan Rodriguez Recalled from Triple-A Columbus
Johnathan Rodriguez was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday to replace the injured David Fry (face). Rodriguez spent time with Cleveland earlier this season and part of last year, but owns just a .155/.255/.258 slash line with one home run and a 32.7 percent strikeout rate in 41 major league games played (110 plate appearances). The former third-round draft pick had a great year at Triple-A, slashing .312/.397/.515 with 16 home runs, and rode a 14-game hit streak from September 4-19 (.408, six home runs). If he can keep the momentum going, he could see success this time around, but he's not expected to get regular at-bats over the final week of the season.
