The New York Giants have been a team to watch on multiple fronts as they try to find an answer at quarterback, especially after striking out on Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford, according to league sources. One avenue for the Giants could be to trade up into the No. 1 overall draft spot to ensure they can secure their favorite QB option this year. The Tennessee Titans currently own the No. 1 pick, but there has been plenty of interest from teams wanting to move up into the top spot. If the G-Men don't outbid other teams to secure the No. 1 overall pick in this year's NFL draft, New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers is another option. The Giants have already spoken to Rodgers' representation about playing for their team once he's officially released by the Jets as a post-June 1 cut. There has been plenty of speculation that New York could draft a QB this year while also adding a veteran bridge signal-caller.--Keith Hernandez

The NFL and NFL Players Association on Thursday agreed to a 2025 salary cap of $279.2 million per team, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. It's another record high. The league projected the cap to land between $277.5 million and $281.5 million just last week. The new figure of $279.2 million in 2025 is a $23.8 million jump from last year's cap of $255.4 million. The newest jump in the salary cap is more than $100 million more than what it was in 2018 ($177 million) and almost $200 million more than it was in 2005 ($85.5 million). NFL vice president of communications Brian McCarthy said that the total projected player costs are slotted at $362.48 million for all 32 teams. Back in 1994, the first year of the salary cap, the NFL's cap per team was a mere $34.608 million.--Keith Hernandez

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports that the Hawk-Eye virtual measurement for the line to gain is scheduled to replace the chains as the primary measurement system for the NFL regular season in 2025. The chain gain will remain on the sidelines as a backup option. The average time to measure with the chains came out to 75 seconds, while virtual measurements have averaged just 30 seconds during the testing phase. Most fans are supportive of the move, feeling that the chain gain was an outdated system that didn't give the most accurate measurements for down distance or when determining whether a team picked up a first down. It has led to controversial calls, none more prominent than when Bills quarterback Josh Allen appeared to cross the first-down marker in the AFC Championship before officials ruled he didn't reach the line to gain against the Kansas City Chiefs, who ended up winning the game 22-21.--Keith Hernandez

New Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi told reporters at the NFL Combine on Tuesday that he has received calls about the availability of the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft. While the Titans will listen, it's too early in the process for Borgonzi to be making any decisions. If Tennessee holds onto the top pick, it's not out of the question that they would consider taking Colorado wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter, who Borgonzi called a "generational talent." Former second-rounder Will Levis was benched in 2024, so QB is certainly a position of need at No. 1 overall as well if the Titans don't trade out of the No. 1 overall pick this year. Borgonzi also said, "We could sign a quarterback in free agency and also draft a quarterback as well." The bottom line is the Titans have a number of different avenues they could employ, and trading the first pick remains in play.--Keith Hernandez

Baltimore Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said on Tuesday at the NFL Combine that he has met with kicker Justin Tucker and that the Ravens will allow the NFL to conduct its investigation before making any decisions. "The allegations are serious, concerning. The amount of allegations are serious and concerning. I think we're fortunate that the league is doing an investigation. We'll wait as patiently as we can for as much information as we can and we'll make our decisions based on that," DeCosta said. Sixteen women have alleged sexual misconduct at massage parlors against the 35-year-old Tucker, and the Ravens have said in the past that they have a "zero-tolerance" policy against sexual misconduct. Not only could Tucker be facing a lengthy suspension from the NFL in 2025, but the Ravens could outright release him, especially after he had the worst season of his career in 2024.--Keith Hernandez

NFL Competition Committee chairman and Atlanta Falcons CEO Rich McKay told reporters on Monday at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis that the league is considering changes that would lead to more kick returns in 2025. The committee will discuss giving teams possession at the 35-yard line instead of the 30-yard line in addition to kickoffs being attempted from five yards further back. The change to the new dynamic kickoff in 2024 led to a 57 percent rise in returns and a lower injury rate, according to the NFL. Additionally, the committee will try to find ways for the onside kick to be tweaked to improve the odds of the kicking team recovering the ball. Any changes that the committee proposes would require the approval of 24 of the 32 teams, as always.--Keith Hernandez

NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent told reporters on Monday at the scouting combine in Indianapolis that an unidentified team has submitted a rule proposal to ban the "tush push." Unless the team withdraws its proposal, NFL owners could vote on the proposal next month at the annual league meeting in Florida. If it did go to a vote, 24 of the league's 32 owners would have to vote in favor for it to pass. "It's the way they deemed it, the tush push. ... It's on our agenda. The club proposal is, 'We need to make some adjustments to that. Is that a viable football play?'" Vincent said. The Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills have used the play more than the rest of the NFL combined, according to ESPN Research, using the short-yardage play 163 times. They've scored or achieved a first down on 87% of their attempts, while the rest of the league has been successful only 71% of the time.--Keith Hernandez

The New York Giants don't have any big contracts that they need to shed this offseason and are in a pretty healthy salary cap situation in 2025, but The Athletic's Dan Duggan suggests that kicker Graham Gano could still be a cap casualty as the Giants look to save a little extra money. The 37-year-old veteran is set to count $5.7 million against this year's cap and has missed 16 games because of injury the last two years. If the G-Men decide to cut the kicker, they'd save $3.2 million on the cap while creating $2.5 million in dead money. Gano injured his hamstring in Week 9 in 2024 and ended up playing in only 10 games, going 9-for-11 on his field-goal tries and 15-for-15 on extra points. He's been pretty reliable in his five seasons with New York, making 87.2% of his field goals, but the Giants wouldn't be blamed for looking to go younger at the position.--Keith Hernandez

The Miami Dolphins have already cut veteran running back Raheem Mostert, cornerback Kendall Fuller and tight end Durham Smythe this offseason, and The Athletic's Jim Ayello suggests that kicker Jason Sanders could be the next on the chopping block. The Dolphins have one of the worst salary cap situations in the league this year, and cutting big-money players such as left tackle Terron Armstead and linebacker Bradley Chubb would incur huge dead-cap penalties ($32.7 million for Armstead and $27.3 million for Chubb). Sanders has a fair cap hit of $4.7 million in 2025, but the Dolphins could get additional cap space of $3.3 million by cutting him. The 29-year-old was a top-10 fantasy kicker in 2024 and made a career-high 37 of his 41 field-goal attempts in 17 games while missing just two of his extra-point tries. This situation purely comes down to salary-cap space for Miami.--Keith Hernandez

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Friday that the Jacksonville Jaguars hired Los Angeles Rams personnel executive James Gladstone to be their new general manager. Gladstone had been the Rams' director of scouting strategy for the last three seasons but had been with the Rams for nine seasons in total. He worked closely with general manager Les Snead in strategic planning and the daily scouting process. New Jaguars head coach Liam Coen is familiar with Gladstone from his four years with the Rams, when he served as assistant receivers and assistant quarterbacks coach in 2018-20 and as offensive coordinator in 2022. The 34-year-old Gladstone was the youngest of Jacksonville's five finalists for the GM job. He will replace Trent Baalke, was the Jaguars' GM from 2021 until being fired on Jan. 22 of this year.--Keith Hernandez

Arizona Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort and owner Michael Bidwell said that the team plans to be active in free agency this offseason with more than $76 million available in salary cap space, according to Over The Cap. It's the fourth-most cap space available of any NFL team. "We're going to look for every avenue to improve the team, but we have to be smart about not only this year's team, but as we build for the future and our own players that we want to extend," Ossenfort said. The Cardinals will also continue working on a contract extension for Pro Bowl tight end Trey McBride. Arizona didn't make the playoffs in 2024 but managed to double their win total from the previous season. In addition to locking up McBride long term, don't be surprised if the Cardinals give quarterback Kyler Murray more help in the passing game alongside McBride and former first-rounder Marvin Harrison Jr.--Keith Hernandez

FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz writes that his sense all along is that the Jacksonville Jaguars general manager job is Chicago Bears assistant GM Ian Cunningham's to lose. Cunningham was a two-time finalist for the GM job with the Tennessee Titans and has already won Super Bowls with the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles. One league source described Cunningham as having "exactly the type of temperament and scouting background teams want these days." However, it's unclear exactly how he'd fit with Jags owner Shad Khan for an organization looking for its first Super Bowl appearance. "I think both Tony and Shad believe he's the guy. He interviewed well virtually, and the expectation is he'll do the same in person on Wednesday," a source said. Jacksonville is down to five candidates for the job and is expected to make a decision later this week.--Keith Hernandez

The NFL announced on Wednesday that the Los Angeles Chargers have been selected as the NFL's designated team for the second-ever regular-season game in Sao Paulo, Brazil, as part of the international game slate for the 2025 season, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Chargers' opponent on Friday, Sept. 5, will be announced at a later date. It's L.A.'s first international contest since they hosted the division-rival Kansas City Chiefs in Mexico City in 2019, losing 24-19. The Chargers have also played two games at London's Wembley Stadium against the Tennessee Titans in 2018 and New Orleans Saints in 2008. The NFL's first game in Brazil featured the Philadelphia Eagles beating the Green Bay Packers by a score of 34-29 at Brazil's Arena Corinthians in Week 1 of last season.--Keith Hernandez

The Baltimore Ravens are letting the NFL's investigation play out before making a decision on kicker Justin Tucker, who has been accused by 16 massage therapists of improper sexual conduct. However, head coach Jim Harbaugh said before the 2022 season that "we're kind of zero tolerance" with players accused of sexual misconduct. Tucker has three years left on his current contract. If the Ravens were to cut him before June 1, they'd take a $7.5 million dead cap hit in 2025. So if they do choose to move on from the 35-year-old, he'd likely be a post-June 1 cut, which would create $4.5 million in salary cap savings and spread out the dead-money hit over the next two years. If they keep Tucker, they would likely bring in another kicking option to give themselves insurance in case he's suspended under the NFL's personal-conduct policy. At the very least, Tucker could be hit with a lengthy suspension in 2025.--Keith Hernandez

ESPN's Rob Demovsky puts Green Bay Packers impending free-agent kicker Brandon McManus in the must-sign group for the team this offseason. McManus' arrival in October turned around the team's dreadful kicking game after Anders Carlson and Brayden Narveson missed 18 field goals and extra points in 25 games, including the playoffs, in 2023 and early 2024. McManus, meanwhile, made 50 of 51 field goals and extra points in 11 regular-season games last year. He doesn't look like he's lost much at age 33 and was on the veteran's minimum last year because he was coming off an investigation by the league for the personal-conduct policy. "If we were able to get Brandon back, I think certainly that would make me feel very, very, very good about that [specialist] group," general manager Brian Gutekunst said. If McManus returns, he could be a nice fantasy streamer.--Keith Hernandez
