Chicago Cubs third baseman Matt Shaw (personal) was scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Atlanta Braves. Shaw will step away from the team for at least a day to deal with a personal matter. Willi Castro will take over at third base and bat eighth versus left-hander Chris Sale. Castro won't be a recommended streaming option here against an elite southpaw. Fantasy managers should check back on Thursday for another update on Shaw.--Andy Webb

Houston Astros starting pitcher Luis Garcia (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday. Garcia felt elbow discomfort after pitching in only his second game of the season. He missed a majority of the season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The assumption is he'll undergo an MRI which should offer some answers. Garcia is basically done for the 2025 season, but hopefully he'll be ready to go for the start of 2026. AJ Blubaugh could enter the rotation in the vacant spot. The Astros should give more information on this situation soon.--Andy Webb

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder/outfielder Tommy Edman (ankle) was activated from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday. Edman is back in the mix after missing over a month of action due to a lingering ankle issue. He played five rehab games before being cleared to return to the Dodgers roster. This season, Edman is slashing .228/.281/.396 with 12 home runs and 44 RBI in 86 games. He hasn't been great at the plate, but is still worth rostering in at least deep leagues. In a corresponding move, outfielder Justin Dean has been optioned to Triple-A. The Dodgers lineup for Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies hasn't been announced, so fantasy managers will need to check back to see if Edman is in there.--Andy Webb

Washington Nationals starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore (shoulder) will be activated off the 15-day injured list and take the ball versus the Miami Marlins on Thursday. Gore will end up only missing the minimum of 15 days on the IL due to shoulder inflammation. Before going down, Gore allowed six runs and walked six batters over his previous two starts. Hopefully, his struggles were due to his shoulder and he'll get back on track on Thursday. Gore should be rostered in a majority of fantasy leagues ahead of this plus-matchup.--Andy Webb

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (knee) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Seattle Mariners. It was recently announced that Winn is dealing with a meniscus tear in his right knee that will require surgery. Despite that, Winn plans to keep playing over the next few weeks and get surgery in the offseason. Fantasy managers should expect the Cardinals to be careful with Winn down the stretch of the season. Thomas Saggese will cover shortstop while Jose Fermin plays second base on Wednesday.--Andy Webb

Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte (lower body) was forced to make an early exit from Wednesday's game against the San Francisco Giants. Marte was visited by the trainers and exited the game in the seventh inning due to a lower body injury. Before exiting, Marte went 0-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. The assumption is that Marte will undergo further testing to determine the severity of the injury. Fantasy managers should check back on Thursday for another update on his status. Ildemaro Vargas took over at second base and figures to see increased time there if Marte misses time.--Andy Webb

The Chicago White Sox announced on Wednesday that they reinstated infielder Miguel Vargas (hand) from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder Bryan Ramos to Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Vargas is back at third base and will hit sixth in his return on Wednesday against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Griffin Jax. The 25-year-old has been out for two weeks with a left-hand sprain, but now that he's back, he should be a lineup regular for the Pale Hose the rest of the way in 2025. In his first full year in the Windy City, Vargas has slashed .234/.315/.404 at the plate with a .719 OPS, a career-high 14 home runs, 52 RBI, 69 runs scored, and four stolen bases in 121 games played. The Cuban infielder was hitting better in August before his hand injury, batting .281 (16-for-57) with a homer, five doubles, and eight RBI in 16 games.--Keith Hernandez

Baltimore Orioles rookie infielder Jeremiah Jackson (elbow) is starting at third base and will bat second for the O's on Wednesday against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates and right-hander Paul Skenes. Jackson was pulled from Tuesday's game at Camden Yards after being plunked in the right elbow by a pitch in the eighth inning. The 25-year-old is only dealing with a bruise, though, allowing him to return to action a day later. The former second-round pick by the Los Angeles Angels in 2018 has looked good in his first 33 major-league games in Baltimore this year, going 38-for-121 (.314) with five long balls, 18 RBI, and 16 runs scored in 127 trips to the plate. Jackson won't be a recommended DFS play, though, while facing one of the best young pitchers in the game in Skenes.--Keith Hernandez

New York Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole (elbow), who is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, is scheduled to throw 45 pitches from 75 feet on Wednesday, according to Jack Curry of the YES Network. "Feels great," Cole said. The 35-year-old veteran is coming along nicely after starting a throwing program last month following TJ surgery and an internal-brace procedure back in March. He will continue to rehab throughout the offseason, but it remains to be seen if he will be cleared to rejoin New York's starting rotation for Opening Day in 2026. The six-time All-Star and Cy Young winner only made 17 starts due to injury in 2024 and did not pitch at all for the Yankees in 2025. While Cole still has ace upside when healthy, his injuries over the last two years will make him more of a risk/reward SP1 in fantasy drafts.--Keith Hernandez

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh (illness) is feeling better and is starting in left field and batting fifth on Wednesday against the division-rival New York Mets and right-hander Clay Holmes. Marsh will return to the fold at Citizens Bank Park after missing the last two games with an illness. Fantasy managers will be hoping that the 27-year-old left-handed hitter can pick up right where he left off at the plate after going 10-for-19 with four extra-base hits in five games in September. He has limited experience against Holmes, though, going hitless in just one career at-bat against him. Marsh has been much better against right-handers this year, going 81-for-268 (.302) with eight of his nine home runs against them and 28 RBI in 299 plate appearances. He's been afforded only 73 plate appearances against southpaws.--Keith Hernandez

Cleveland Guardians middle infielder Gabriel Arias (wrist) remains out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's clash against the division-rival Kansas City Royals at Progressive Field. Brayan Rocchio is starting at shortstop and will bat eighth against Royals right-hander Jonathan Bowlan. Arias was pulled from Monday's series opener with inflammation in his right wrist and will miss his second straight game. The 25-year-old is considered day-to-day for now and hopes to return for Thursday's series finale against KC. Arias has missed plenty of time of late due to nagging injuries and isn't much to look at offensively when he's healthy anyway. Rocchio isn't much better for fantasy purposes and should be considered a weak DFS sleeper at the position. The 24-year-old Venezuelan has hit .237 (68-for-287) on the year with four homers, 40 RBI, and six steals.--Keith Hernandez

Detroit Tigers infield prospect Kevin McGonigle highlights a crew of seven that the team will send to the Arizona Fall League (AFL) in October, playing for the Scottsdale Scorpions. The Tigers' top-ranked prospect (MLB No. 2) seemingly cruised through the regular season, slashing .301/.408/.566 in 84 games across various levels, but lost in all that could be that he missed a lot of time in 2024 due to injury (74 games played) and missed a month at the beginning of this year due to injury, so the 21-year-old will be able to get some extra reps in the AFL to make up for lost time. There's a chance he's in the big leagues at some point next year, too, and can use this time to prepare. Regardless, the left-handed slugger has some of the best bat-to-ball skills in the minors and should be stashed away in dynasty formats.--Jarod Rupp

Miami Marlins infielder Graham Pauley (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday. The 24-year-old has been on the injured list with an oblique strain since mid-August, but could soon rejoin the Marlins. That could mean recent call-up Maximo Acosta's time in Miami is coming to an end, or at least at the hot corner, although Acosta is riding a five-game hit streak since his recall. Pauley slashed .229/.310/.371 in 54 games before the oblique injury, so there isn't much to get excited about for fantasy, and he also may cede the position to Connor Norby (quadriceps) when he returns from the IL.--Jarod Rupp

Baltimore Orioles outfield prospect Enrique Bradfield Jr. is headed to the Arizona Fall League (AFL) this October, part of a seven-man contingent that the O's will be sending there. Baltimore's prospects will play for the Peoria Javelinas, and the season will begin on October 6. Many players are sent to the AFL to either work on mechanics or to make up for lost reps due to injury, and Bradfield Jr. fits the latter profile. The Orioles' fourth-ranked prospect missed a lot of time earlier this season due to a hamstring injury, logging just 67 games between High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A. In all, the 23-year-old speedster hit .253 with a .366 OBP thanks to a strong 14.0 percent walk rate, and he stole 34 bases. There's a good chance we'll see the former first-rounder in the big leagues next year, and his speed alone will make him intriguing for fantasy.--Jarod Rupp

Los Angeles Angels first baseman Nolan Schanuel (wrist) said that he's going to Arizona on Wednesday to ramp up his baseball activities and is hoping to be activated from the 10-day injured list at some point on the team's upcoming road trip (but not in Seattle this weekend), according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. It sounds like Schanuel might skip a minor-league rehab assignment, which means it's possible he could be back in the team's lineup as early as Monday in Milwaukee against the Brewers. The 23-year-old left-handed hitter has been out almost three weeks with a bone bruise on his left wrist, but he is almost ready to return as the starting first baseman to close out the season. Until Schanuel can return, Logan Davidson and Oswald Peraza will continue to split time at first base for the Angels.--Keith Hernandez
